Surprising Tyler

The day after I got back from California Tyler started playing again. It was terrifying. I wasn't sure that he was ready to be back playing. He had 2 goals in that game. I couldn't believe it. His first game back from injury and he scores two goals. He's amazing. He's had 3 other games since his first game back and I can tell he isn't 100 percent out there. Even in interviews when they ask him how he's doing he's vague most of the time. I'm so scared he's going to get hurt again. He has been avoiding contact when he can and he's been a little slower. I want to trust that the Stars wouldn't clear him to play if he wasn't ready but he's not playing like the Tyler I know.

The Stars have a few days where they're home with no games so I decided to surprise Tyler and visit him. I can't wait to spend some real time with him. I know it's only going to be for a few days but I'm happy just to get that. I haven't really been able to be with him since the All Star break. They had a game yesterday and the next three days with no games. I don't know his practice schedule but that's only a few hours out of the day. I chose to take an early flight out to him so I could get to his house before he would have to leave for practice. He has no idea I'm coming. He's going to be so surprised.

Once I land and pick up my rental car I drive to Tyler's house. It's still early so I'm only going to assume that Tyler is still sleeping. Hopefully I will be able to sneak into the house without him hearing me and surprise him in bed but I doubt Marshall and Cash will be cooperative in keeping quiet. I pull the car into the driveway and grab my suitcase from the backseat. I grab the key that Tyler gave me out of my purse and walk to the front door. I slowly put the key in the door and turn it. I open the door just enough so I can slip myself and my suitcase through. I close the door behind me quietly.

I hear Marshall and Cash come running from upstairs. I hope they didn't wake Tyler. I really want to surprise him. I put my suitcase down as they come running down the stairs and towards me. I squat down and they both jump on me and I fall over on my butt. They start licking my face as I pet them. I try to stay quiet but I can't help letting out a few giggles. Once I get them calmed down I say, "I'm going to go surprise your daddy, shhh."

I creep slowly up the stairs and the dogs follow after me. They walk ahead of me and go back into Tyler's room. I slowly walk into the room. Marshall and Cash jump into the bed with Tyler who is still sleeping. He's sleeping on his back with his arm out to the side. He's not wearing a shirt and his blanket is covering his lower half. I walk over to the bed and lie down next to him. I run my fingers through his hair and kiss him on the forehead. He stirs a bit then slowly opens his eyes. "Amy? Hey, what are you doing here?" he sleepily says as he rubs his eyes open.

"I wanted to surprise you."

He puts his hand on the back of my head and pulls me in for a kiss. I wrap my arms around him and pull myself closer. He hugs me and squeezes me tightly. "What a great surprise."

"I saw that you had a few days without games and I just had to see you."

"I'm so happy you're here. I love waking up to you."

"I wasn't sure if you had practice or not today. That's why I'm here so early."

"I have off today but practice the next two days."

"Then we will just stay in bed all day today."

"That sounds perfect," he says as he holds me close. "I still can't believe you're here." He rubs his fingers through my hair with both hands. I put my hands on his cheeks and kiss him. He puts his arms around me and rests his hands on my lower back.

"I love you so much, Ty." I rest my head on his chest.

He rubs his hands up and down my back. "I love you too. It's great to have you in my arms again."
