I wake up to the sound of the balcony door opening and the sun shining through the room, burning my eyelids. I shield my eyes with one hand as I rub them with the other as I struggle to keep them open. "Why?" is all I manage to say as I take the pillow from underneath my head and put it over my face.
"Time to wake up and get out of this room. It's too nice out there to sleep all day," Harold replies as he pulls the blanket off of me.
I look over at the time It's 8am. "The alarm was going to go off in an hour. I wasn't going to sleep in all day," I whine as I sit up and lean back against the headboard.
"Get up and get dressed. I'll take you out to breakfast before we have to go snorkeling."
I slowly get out of bed and walk over to my suitcase to grab an outfit to wear before making my way over to the bathroom. I close the door behind me and get changed. I put my bathing suit on underneath my clothes so I don't have to come back to the room and change before we have to go snorkel. I throw my hair up into a messy bun and leave the bathroom. Harold is out on the patio looking out towards the ocean. I step outside and stand next to him and let the nice morning breeze hit my face.
"I could easily just stay here for the rest of my life," I say as I lean on the balcony and look out to the horizon.
"It is just about as close to perfect as you can get," Harold replies, "come on, let's go get something to eat."
We both turn around and walk back into the room. Harold grabs his sunglasses and wallet and we make our way down to the restaurant. After we both enjoy a light breakfast we head to where we can get our snorkeling equipment and we are brought to a spot where we can swim out and explore for a bit in the clear, blue water. We spend a few hours swimming with the fish and looking at the reefs. The world under water is fascinating. I could watch it forever and a day. Eventually we get tired and come in to shore to relax before we try to find ourselves a surfing lesson.
We set up our towels next to each other and take turns putting sunscreen on. Harold walks over to the bar set up down the beach and gets us each a lemonade and sits down next to me. I smile and we clink our glasses before taking a sip. The lemonade tastes like heaven. I thought the lemonade at Dingo's was perfection, this is pretty darn close. I would never admit anyone's lemonade is better than Dingo's but this is so refreshing. I lean my head back and let the sun hit my face as the breeze blows by. We couldn't have asked for more perfect weather. I look over at Harold who is looking down the beach at some surfers who are getting ready to catch some waves.
"Do you want to go closer to watch them?" I ask.
He looks back at me and smiles. I'm sure he didn't realize I was watching him. "Yeah. Is that ok with you?"
"Of course."
We stand up, pick up our things, walk down the beach to where the surfers are, and set up underneath a palm tree. Both of us lean up against the tree and watch as the surfers run out into the water. They paddle out into the ocean and wait for a wave.
"Are you feeling better today?" Harold asks as he continues to watch the surfers out in the water.
"I'm going to try not to think about it," I reply.
"You know he loves you," he says as he looks back at me.
"I know."
"I know you and you're not going to stay mad for too long."
"I'm more hurt than mad. Disappointed even. He's better than this."
"You will get through it. You guys have a special bond. Besides, I know you miss him."
