Today's Tyler's birthday party. I spoke with Jamie yesterday and he told me the box got to his house and it seems to be in good shape. He didn't want to open it to check. I told him I would check on it when I got there. I talked to Tyler for a while yesterday as well. He was so upset I couldn't be there with him. He's going to be so surprised to see me. Harold sent me my flight information for tomorrow. I have to fly out pretty early so I won't have much time to spend with Tyler. At least I'll get to see him. Any time together is better than nothing.
Our flight down to Dallas was a bit delayed due to weather and I was worried they would cancel the flight or that we would miss the party but we still get there in plenty of time. We're waiting for Jamie to pick us up at the airport right now. He got caught in a bit of traffic on the way to get us.
"He should be here soon he says," I say to AnnMarie as we continue to wait.
"Damn Dallas traffic," she replies.
I see his car pull up. "There he is." He parks behind a few other cars and we walk over to where he parked. He gets out of the car and opens the trunk. "Thanks for picking us up."
"No problem," he replies. We put our bags in his trunk and get in. I sit in the front seat and AnnMarie sits in the back. "There was an accident. That's what took so long."
"Our flight was delayed anyway," I say, "No worries. We're here."
"Tyler's going to be so excited. He has no idea. He thinks we're just going to watch basketball."
"It sucked having to lie to him. He was practically begging me to come."
"He understood, though, you're hard at work right now."
"Ha yeah."
Thankfully the traffic on the way back to Jamie's isn't anything like the traffic on the way to the airport and we get to his house fairly quickly. There are already a bunch of the guys from the team at his house when we get there. We are greeted by the guys and start to walk around and talk. Tyler should be showing up in about 15 minutes. I walk into one of Jamie's guest rooms where the picture is and start removing the tape. I am so paranoid that it either got damaged in transit or in customs. My heart is racing as I get the box open. I lie it down on the floor, grab the bubble wrap, and slowly pull the picture out of the box. I take some of the bubble wrap off to make sure the glass is unbroken and there are no scratches anywhere. I breathe a huge sigh of relief when I see it looks just as it did when I packed it up. Perfect. I roughly wrap the bubble wrap back around the frame and push it back into the box.
"Everything ok?" AnnMarie asks as she joins me in the room.
I stand up from the squatting position I was in. "Yeah. Not a scratch on it."
"Oh good."
We walk out of the room to join the party. Jordie walks over to me with a drink and hands it to me. "Malibu and coke?" he says.
"Wow, you're good," I reply as I take the glass from him.
"Remembered from New Years," he says as he holds up his beer bottle. I clink my glass with his bottle and take a sip of my drink.
"There's a lot from that night I'd rather not have people remember."
He laughs. "Yeah. I don't blame you."
Jamie walks into the middle of the room. "He's leaving now. Should be here soon." We all gather into the living room to wait for Tyler to show up. I can't even remember the last time I was a part of a surprise party. This is exciting. Jamie looks out of the window as he pushes the curtains aside. "Ok he's here."
