Today is the only day that I really wish we had a TV in our room. Tyler and team Canada are playing in the final game of the world championships of hockey and I really want to watch. We have no activities planned for today so I'm going to be glued to my phone for updates. I'm sitting out on the balcony with my phone in one hand and a cup of lemonade in the other. It's too early to be awake, especially while on vacation, but I want to know what goes on in the game while it's happening. Harold is still sleeping but if Tyler score I'm sure I'll wake him up with my cheering.
My stomach is growling and I probably should have some food delivered to the room but I don't want to move from this spot. Hopefully Harold wakes up soon so I could send him out to get something for the both of us to eat. It's a cloudy morning here today. The first day of our trip that hasn't been perfect so I can't complain.
I watch the box score all first period, waiting for something to happen. A Canada goal would be ideal. With about 2 minutes left in the period Cody Eakin, Tyler's teammate from Dallas, scores the first goal of the game. Good job, Cody. Just as the first period comes to a close Harold walks out onto the balcony to join me.
"Are you watching the game on your phone?" he asks as he sits down.
"Not even the game, the box score," I reply.
"Oh that sucks that you can't watch. How's it going?"
"Canada up 1-0. First intermission right now." My stomach growls obnoxiously and by the wide eyed look on Harold's face it seems even he heard it. "Well that's embarrassing."
He chuckles. "I'll go pick us up some food. You stay here. I know how you get when you watch hockey."
"Thank you."
Harold gets up and leaves and I look around Twitter a bit during intermission. I wish I could talk to Tyler, at least text him. I want him to know that I'm with him, watching the box score, rooting for him. I stand up and walk to the edge of the balcony and look out to the water. The waves are a little rougher than usual. I wonder if we are going to get a storm. I hope not. I take a picture of our overcast day and post it on Instagram with the caption "not every day can be perfect, even in paradise."
Just as the second period gets started Harold comes back with our food. He places my tray on my lap. "You're the best," I say as I prop my phone up with some rolled up napkins so I can watch while I eat.
"They asked me where my girlfriend was."
I laugh. "Oh dear, what did you say?"
"I said she's watching her boyfriend's hockey game."
"You didn't!" I exclaim as I laugh.
"Ok no I didn't, but I should have. It would have been funny."
"You're terrible." I look down at my phone and Canada has scored another goal. "Two nothing now."
"Way to go Canada."
While we are eating Sidney Crosby scores which makes the score 3-0, Canada. I start to get excited because even though there is a lot of time left in the game it seems as if Canada has it won already. Just a minute later the box score updates with another goal. Tyler Seguin. I have to do a double take. Does that really say Tyler Seguin? It does.
"YES!" I shout. Harold jumps, a little startled. "Tyler scored!"
"Awesome. What is that? 4 nothing now? Did Russia even show up?"
"I guess not. I'm not complaining, though."
Tyler's goal is the last goal of the period and we go into 2nd intermission. Harold and I clean up our breakfast. The sun seems to be trying to creep through the clouds but the clouds seem to have other plans. It's still very overcast. Harold comes back out onto the balcony and sits in the chair closest to me. Usually he sits across from me.
