Layla Wilkes

let's go shopping, I text Chris. It's gotten pretty late and my family has headed home and mostly everyone's out Black Friday shopping. Usually I don't go since I don't like shopping that much. Especially not with my mom or Sasha. For that reason, the only time that I have gone is when I went with Allie and her mom but that was eh.

Now I have to ask my parents and I'm pretty sure that they'll say yes, but the only set back would be that I gotta ask them for money. Usually my dad doesn't have a problem giving it to me. It's just always my mom bitching about how I'm almost eighteen and have yet to have a job.

I know, it sounds bad, but with a schedule like mine when can I really fit in time for that? About three fourths of my year is dedicated all to soccer. Two seasons are the actual soccer season and then during the summer, I usually have some type of training in order for me to get back into shape for the season.

Now of course I practice year round, but during the spring it isn't nearly as serious as the other three seasons.

I knock on my parents door before peeking my head in. "Um, can I go shopping?"

Immediately, my mom responds with, "Black Friday shopping?" She asks and I nod my head. "Well I'll be damned... It's gonna snow tomorrow."

I sort of make a face at her supposed joke and I make sure it isn't too obvious to the point where she'll start yelling at me. She's saying something outrageous is gonna happen just because I want to go shopping but it's really not that big of a deal.

"So can I?" I ask again.

"You got Black Friday money?" She raises an eyebrow at me asking an infamous question that's asked by parents every-freaking-where. I swear I hate that.

Where the hell else would I be getting money from??

"No... That's why I'm here," I say back and look to my dad who's just been observing practically this entire time. "Daddy?"

He tries keeping a straight, hard face while looking at me but my innocent, daughter-like stare back made him crack. "Take the money out of my wallet, Jai. Damn."

I smile at him while I say thank you after I get the money and then quickly leave their room before my mom adds her two cents once again.

Making it back to my room, I pick it up off of the charger and press the home button and my phone automatically unlocks due to my fingerprint. I pull the notifications bar down to see that Chris replied and he said: aight. your parents cool w/ it?

yeah. come get me, I text back and then plop down into my bed to wait instead of waiting downstairs and about ten minutes later, Chris texts me letting me know that he's outside. I make my way downstairs and as I close the front door then begin to make my way down the driveway, guess who the hell is walking towards the house?

"Where are you going?" Sasha asks me.

"Where are you coming from?" I ask back completely ignoring her question.

"I'm grown, Layla," she says those very familiar annoying two words once again causing me to roll my eyes.

"Whatever Sasha," I walk right pass her and once I'm close to Chris' car I hear her voice again.
