yes. a real chapter this time.

Layla Wilkes

"Yeah, and you're an idiot," I roll my eyes at Carter as I start my car.

I'd asked him to hold my keys while we were at the movies since I didn't have any pockets or a bag and he lied about having them just to scare me.

"Imma idiot, but you fell for it?" He responds sarcastically. "If you know you gave 'em to me I should still have them."

"You're right, but that's the thing," I begin as I look behind me to pull out of the parking spot. "You're stupid enough to have had them only to lose them."

He only straight faced me in response and then I saw him take out his phone when I finally turned back around in my seat now heading to the exit of the parking lot where the movie theater was.

"So are you gonna post any of the pictures?" I asked him as I waited at a red light.

Before we got into the car, he had me take pictures of him in his Red Sox jersey since the last name on the back was his own.

"I mean, your pictures didn't turn out as lit as they used to," he paused and smirked slightly as I made a face at him before he chuckled and said, "Nah, but I fuck with this one."

He turned his phone towards me quickly and I only glanced at it before nodding my head realizing it was one of the last few that I took but it now had a filter over it.

"Good now never ask for my services again," I say back jokingly and he chuckles again but doesn't bother getting smart back

The drive to his house was chill and we sort of only made small talk until we were a few minutes away. When the time left to reach his house ran slim, Carter finally sparked up another conversation.

"I'm glad we got to link, though," he started off. "Ion really wanna get into how or why we fell off again, but just the fact that shit's good again..."

I cut him off before he could finish his sentence with, "It's all I could ask for really," and he quickly agreed.

"It wasn't fun being mad at you," I reminded him even though I don't think he would have ever assumed that. "It was actually kinda hard, too."

"Fun?" He repeated while he shook his head with a really small smile. "Shit wasn't easy either."

There's a pause after that before he adds on.

"Niggas went from talking everyday to not at all and it was fucked up how sudden it was, but I know that was my fault."

He's not lying there...

"And Ion know. Guess it took time for me to come to my senses and settle for no as an answer," he continued and I nodded my head even though I wasn't sure if he was exactly looking at me or not. "Sure Chris 'still hate my ass."
