Layla Wilkes
"I'll see y'all tomorrow," I yell out the door to Gigi and Allie who are now walking towards Gigi's mom's car.
When we got in the house this morning we all were knocked out soon and before I actually dosed off I attempted to text Carter to wake him up, but he was already awake so that worked out well.
Slamming the door shut, I stride towards the kitchen and when I make it there, I open the door with hopes to find something to eat.
What's weird is that the refrigerator is full, but there still just doesn't seem like anything's there if that makes sense. It's full with nothing that I like is what I mean.
I huff and then leave the kitchen making a change in my plans.
I search for my dad to find him and my mother sitting cuddled up together on the couch in the dark watching something on TV.
I watch the two of them for a little while admiring how happy they look. It doesn't seem to usually last long even though my dad tries so hard but since it's this way as of now, I'm glad I got to witness it.
Finally breaking my admirable stare, I speak up and ask, "Can I have some money? I need it to buy food."
I can already sense what my mother is going to say, but I just hope that my dad can speak up before she can.
"Layla you are going to be eighteen in a couple more months. Don't you think you should have a job by now?"
"Sharon leave her alone. As long as she's my daughter she can ask for money when she wants. She knows what has to happen eventually, but she can take her time," my dad stands up for me.
"Layton, she's almost grown! She needs t-"
"Maybe you're right, but like I said. Let her take her time," he cuts her off.
I smile internally thankful that he's on my side which he usually is. My mom hates that, but I'm pretty sure that she's gotten used to it. That doesn't mean that she's okay with or agrees with it, though.
Ignoring my mother's pout for the moment, my dad orders, "Go into my room on my side and take whatever you need. Don't go crazy just buying food though, Jai."
I love being called by my middle name, so, I smile at that while nodding my head. "Thank you."
Before jogging up the stairs, I stand on the steps leading upstairs in a spot where I can see into the living room without being noticed plus I can hear what's being said.
While still laying on my dad's chest my mom shakes her head. "You spoil her too much," she complains.
"What are you talking about? I spoil you both too much. That's why you're so stubborn now," he argues.
"I'm not stu-," she begins but once again he cuts her off, but this time by sneaking a kiss on her cheek which makes her giggle.
"Yes you are. You know this," my dad insists before they put their focus back on what they were previously watching.
I give a small smile before finishing making my way up the stairs.
