Tess POV
I try to squeeze some water out of my shirt. It would have been nice to know we were going for some swims tonight. It is dark out now so I am a little scared to see what is next. She said we will sweat and we didn't sweat to much yet so what could it possibly be? I guess I will find out in a minute. I am so tired from these challenges. Gavin, Aden, and Ariel are all so lucky they don't have to do these stupid challenges. Especially Ariel because she is missing out on two now. She said it was set up for them to win basically, that is totally unfair. It is supposedly because of their sign.
"I hope this next challenge is quick because I want to go home and sleep,"Lindsey sighs walking besides me. I nod in agreement as Lyla walks on the other side of me. Ariel is walking beside her and man what never she has. I know she can't really help it because of her power but man do I wish I was her not having to do this. Is this really necessary, why couldn't they just tell us why this happening without being challenged about it. "Oh look it is the winner,"Lindsey claps sarcastically.
"Hey I didn't think I was going to win,"Ariel defends and Lindsey sighs .
"I know, I know it is just my legs are killing me,"Lindsey says in agony. Lyla nods.
"Yeah you are so lucky, because this next challenge is supposed to be the hardest,"Lyla adds and we stop walking when the people in front of us come to a quick stop. I look around us. Uh oh. This looks hard. I see some machinery and some ropes. This looks like we are all going to have a great old time, memories forever.
"Okay this is your last challenge for tonight but my far the hardest and longest challenge, you need to have patience, but a big personality, you need to be quiet and quick, but at the same time slow and steady. This is probably confusing you, but you will see that this obstacle course will show off what I just said,"Mrs astro explains. We all share interesting and intrigued looks but I am not one bit excited. "This challenge requires agility, skills, and everything in between"She adds.
"So are you going to explain t-
"Patience Shor. Patience. That is one of the needs actually. I can see this won't be easy for you, but that is okay because these challenges will show case certain people,"She says and we all know that Shor will not be the winner of this one.
"Just explain!"He says crossing his arms. Mrs.Astro lets out a small laugh.
"Okay. So, first you will climb the water ropes, then try to swing yourself towards the platforms. At the platform you will grab three tennis balls, no more. Then that you will swi-which by the way I am glad everybody can swim in this group because the morning group had some weaklings. Anyway to what I was saying before I interrupted myself, you will swim across to the next challenge. That challenge is to throw tennis balls until they git the target, take your time and aim accurate because if you miss three times you have to go back to the other side again to get more balls. You don't want to get tired that quickly. After you hit the target efficiently, you will use the monkey bars to test your strength and, and you will jump down to the next task once you are hovered over it. Don't worry it is very easy to see, it might as well be a bright traffic cone. Anyway that next task is to swim all the way to the finish line. I hope you were listening because I won't be saying it again. This will be hard so don't go to fast or you will never finish. You don't want that to happen because if you don't finish we don't leave. I know that if we don't leave as quickly as possible then some of you will be hunted down by your peers. Good luck! Now go line up on that blue line, when I honk the horn you will go, I will see you on the other side,"She explains the instructions and I take a list of mental notes, this will be interesting and I am not looking forward to this. We all walk over to the blue line and get ready.
I prepare my body for the shock, I was never able to climb ropes in PE at school, how am I supposed to this now. Maybe these powers and news have unlocked my athleticism. If it does, I just found my jew favorite event. I get brought back to reality when the horn honks and we all un for the ropes. They are not too long.
I take grasp of the rope and start to get my gripping and footing ready. I am jump up so I am a good foot onto the rope. Five more feet to go. I try to pull myself up and shimmy my body so that my legs do all the hard work. My arms are my supporters. I jump up holding on with my hands and kicking my feet up a little higher. Okay I made it about a half a foot higher. I am not the tallest person so this is a little interesting and harder then the people around me have it. I look beside me to see that Patrick is a foot higher then me. I do another little jump and start pulling myself up with my arms as well. Other people's success and competition makes me work harder so that is kinda a good thing. I have about three more feet to go and this isn't going as had I as I thought and I haven't lost too much energy yet. I do my technique about for more times and finally I have reached the high platform where the pool water is. It is set up so that the rest of the obstacles are on this level so the level I was just on is under this one.
I just have to do a little swing over to the platform because I am still dangling on a rope. I use my body and slowly start to rock then I do the only thing I can do and jump when I am the closest to the platform and hope for the best. My luck is shining today because I land perfectly on the platform. The best part is I am the fifth one here. That means that there are still four more people climbing because three of us don't have to do this challenge. So I am in pretty good shape right now.
I grab three tennis balls and hold them tight as I slowly swim to the target area. This has to be equally balanced between time and patience. Not to slow, but not to fast. I reach the target area and pull myself up from the water. By now everybody is either throwing balls at targets or grabbing some tennis balls and making their way here.
We have to stand in a specific spot so I go over to it. I place my two other balls down and keep one in my right hand. I try to focus on the target, I need to have a good distance as well as accuracy. I don't want it to fall short but I don't want it go over. It is a good fifteen feet so I am going to have to get the closest possible to perfect.
I extend my arms back and release. I watch as the ball falls a foot short and a few inches to the left. Okay so now I know I have to use just a little bit more strength and not to let my wrist control the ball but my whole hand. I watch as it perfectly hits the red dot and I hear a little beep sound. I clap at myself not caring if I look childish I am proud of that, I suck at stuff like this.
I arrive at the monkey bars and notice Clayton and Patrick are both right beside me. This is getting close. Okay, I will admit I love monkey bars. I jump to the second bar trying not to show off to hard. I swing myself over to the area I need to be and slowly and carefully hop down. When I land I immediately swim my fastest to the finish line. When I get there an alarm goes off and Aden, Gavin, Ariel, and Mrs.astro all clap. I smile and join them.
"Now let's see how this plays out,"She smiles.
The only thought in my mind is...what is my power?
