After your conversation with Max, you went to bed. It was around 9:45 and you were beat. But you were really looking forward to talking to Max again the next day.

"I like the way you edit, (Y/N). It's very similar to the way I edit. Although, there is one thing I can show you how to do differently." Max reached over to put his hand on the mouse and both your hands touched for a split second until you moved your hand away. A small heat sensation waved over your cheeks and you looked down at your lap. From the corner of your eye, you could see Max looking away, too. Why was there sudden awkwardness between you two? "A-Anyways, back to what I was saying..." Max faced the screen again and you looked up slowly. You really liked Max, and you hoped he liked you back, but why would he? You were just another fan. But you were the only fan he's ever hung out with. Could he like you? Possibly. Was there a chance he did? Maybe not. "Max?" You asked quietly. He turned to look at you. "Yeah?" The words that were formed in your mind couldn't come out of your mouth. You were dumbstruck all of a sudden. "Uh, I... Um... I wanted to ask you a question." He turned his chair now to actually face you. "Sure," he replied. Now or never. "Do you like me?"

Your eyes burst open and you nearly fall off your bed.

"Jesus Christ!" You shout.

Well, that's one way to wake up in the morning. You move away from the edge and sigh. What a dream.

You grab your phone to check the time (7:24 a.m.) and see you have a new text.

New Message - Dad

You're shocked. I wonder what Dad could want? He hasn't texted me in forever.

Dad: Sorry I'm texting you so early in the morning, (Y/N), but I wanted you to know that your mother has just been diagnosed with Lupus. She noticed rashes on her body so I brought her to the hospital and that's when we were informed of the news. She's feeling okay right now, and she says not to worry, but it's pretty serious. We miss and love ya, kiddo.

Your eyes water. How could this happen? As soon as something good happens to you, life says "yeet" and now your mother is sick.

"God damn it! Fucking Christ! No!" You wail loudly. Tears stream down your face and you just cry on your bed.

Lupus is an inflammatory disease caused when the immune system attacks its own tissues. Lupus can affect the joints, skin, kidneys, blood cells, brain, heart, and lungs. So basically, it's when your white blood cells get confused and attack red blood cells, causing your blood cell count to go down a bit.

There is no cure for Lupus.

Two hours later, you finally get up and get dressed. As you brush your hair, you notice your eyes are pink and puffy. Crap...

New message - Max

The buzz from your phone scares you at first, but once you see it's Max, you slowly calm down.

Max: Good morning, (Y/N)! I think we should hang out today. Are you available?

(A.N. I like the way this story is going so far, but I don't know. It seems a bit too cliché. Anyways, Lupus is a real disease. It's not something to joke about. I was going to do some other illness, but I figured since I know a lot about Lupus, I might as well as use it. MY mother has Lupus, so that helped with it also. May is Lupus Awareness Month!)
