A familiar redhead comes running into the room and barging through the doctors.

"(Y/N)?!" He exclaims, tears forming in his eyes.

You cough again and sit back, sighing. "Max..."

He comes up to you and grabs your hand, holding it up to his cheek. "I'm so glad you finally woke up, (Y/N)."

"Would you say you're Glad Max again, then?" You chuckle, coughing.

Max laughs sadly. "Yeah, I guess you could say that."

All the doctors leave the room except for one. He's the one who's been attending you this past month. He looks at the monitor and checks your vitals. "Everything seems good, surprisingly," he tells you both. "Your bones are healing correctly still... If you need more morphine or anything, don't hesitate to press that button on the wall behind you. It's good to see you awake, (Y/N)."

And with that, the doctor leaves the room. Now it's just you and Max.

"How are you awake?" Max whispers.

You don't answer right away.

"(Y/N)?"

"...I built up determination."

"How? After a whole month, you suddenly wake up?"

"I thought of you, alright? While I was trapped in my own personal prison, I thought about how I couldn't just leave you and die. I wouldn't stand for it so I forced myself to get up." Tears form in your eyes and you cough again. "It was hell in there, Max. I could hear everything going on but I couldn't say anything about anything. You don't know how terrible it was..."

Max sighs and hugs you gently, what with all your injuries.

"Now that you're awake, I have something to tell you," Max whispers in your ear. "I don't know if you want to hear it, but you need to know."

"W-What happened now?"

"Your mother... She... She passed away. Three weeks ago, while you were still in the beginning part of the coma. Her funeral has already taken place and she left a letter for you that your father sent. Nobody's opened it and I've kept it with me this entire time, hoping you'd wake up soon."

Max let go of you and pulled the envelope out of his pocket. He hands it you and wipes the tears from your eyes.

"Don't cry, (Y/N). I'm here for you, you know that. Everyone at the offices is. If you ever need to talk to someone, we're all available. Especially me. Don't forget that I really love you."

You nod and push his hands away, tears still coming out of your eyes. You shakily open the letter and take in a deep breath.

Dear (Y/N),

I'm so glad to hear you married Max. He seems like a very nice young man who will treat you well. Do the same in return.
Although I am no longer here, always know you can count on me to help you through the rest of your life. You're a beautiful woman, (Y/N), and you have a beautiful spirit. Continue making me proud. I know you'll keep succeeding because I didn't raise a quitter. I raised a strong woman who can do anything she sets her mind to. My doctor is in my room now (probably to give me the bad news) so I must end the letter here.
I love you so much, my daughter.

Mom

You start bawling and Max hugs you again. It hurts but you don't which is worse; the emotional pain or the physical pain.

(A.N. This chapter seems a little boring but I'll try to make the next more interesting (emphasize on the "try"). Anyways, the point of this mini Author's Note though is to tell you guys I applied this story into the #Wattys2016. I doubt I'll win anything but you have to at least try, right? Yeah... This book will be ending soon, but not too soon. Maybe by chapter 45 or something? I don't know. Sorry for this long AN. Later!)
