The News

Chapter 21:

Over the last 2 years since getting married, Toby and I tried 5 times to have a child. Each time, it failed and the baby unfortunately, died. The last time it happened, I could tell Toby was extremely upset. Not like he wasn't upset about the other 4 babies, but this one ripped his heart to pieces. Toby desperately wanted a boy and this last baby was a boy. When the doctor said, "I'm sorry, you lost your baby boy", I looked over at Toby in the chair across the room. His legs were parted and he had his hands on his head looking at the ground. He was rubbing the back of his head and then he rubbed his eyes. When he looked up at me, I looked the other way. I didn't want to see his face. I knew he was heartbroken. He looked at me and I could feel his eyes watching me. I lightly closed my eyes. I could hear him mumbling to himself. At one point I heard him say, "Why?". Then, I heard crying noises from him. I couldn't look at him. I couldn't see him heartbroken. I left him has his moment. I didn't want to make him feel any worse. After five minutes, he got up and got a tissue. He blew his nose then threw the tissue in the trash. He came over to me and picked up my hand. I smiled at him. He smiled back and sniffled. I rubbed his arm.

"Calm down, you don't want your asthma to act up" I said to him.

"I. Know" he was still sniffling.

I got up and we drove home. Toby was silent the whole way home. Every once and a while I would look over at him. I would just stare at his profile. It was stunning. More stunning that I ever noticed it to be before. His features were sculpted beautifully by the glare of the sun. His jaw was clenched. I reached my left hand over and put it on his leg. He put his right hand down and put it on top of mine. He grabbed my fingers and held them in his hand. When we got home it was already 7 p.m. Toby made himself some popcorn. He walked in the living room, grabbed me by the waist, and we watched a movie. I felt so bad for him. The doctor said we couldn't try again for 3 weeks.

3 weeks later:

I wanted to try. I wanted to try and conceive a child again. I had to. I couldn't let Toby not get what he needed. Toby was working until 8 p.m. at this little coffee shop. So, I got in my lingerie and laid in bed. I waited for him. My hair was combed and I had brushed my teeth. I knew after Toby got a shower that he would surely be energized again. So, I waited. At precisely 8:10 p.m., I heard the door close. I heard him moan as he came up the stairs.

"Eh, my freaking legs hurt" I heard him say in the hallway.

I heard the shower start up and I heard him get in the shower. I decided to get out of bed and go into the bathroom and wait for him. At 8:20, the shower stopped and I saw his hand go for the towel. I posed and then he steeped out of the shower.

"HOLY NUGGET! You scared me" he yelled.

He grabbed me and looked at me.

"What's this?" he asked.

"Oh, you should know" I winked at him.

We went into the bedroom and he just continued looking at me. He bit his lip.

"We're trying one last time?" he asked.

I didn't say anything. I just tackled him onto the bed and his towel came off. We passionately kissed each other. He went inside of me. He moaned as I pushed him onto the pillows.

"Maybe we can conceive this time" he was heavily breathing through talking.

"Hopefully!" I said.

He kept on thrusting himself onto me until he climaxed. He moaned and groaned and I kissed him. He started kissing me back and then he dug his face into my chest. He kissed me again. He just kept himself inside me until we were done kissing. He rolled over top of me and looked down at me.

"We should be able to have that kid now" he smiled and laughed.

"Definitely!" I smiled and laughed back at him.

2 weeks later:

Toby was at work. I decided to go to the local store and get a pregnancy test kit. I used one and I looked at it. It said one thing. Was it good or bad?
