chapter twnety seven

It's Friday. I just got off the phone with cade. He and I are going out tomorrow night and eating dinner. Elena and Damon are in his room and from what I'm hearing I should leave.

I walked outside just to see Alaric pull in. "Damon and Elena..are busy." I said warning him. "I'm here for you Lilly. Joe wanted to meet you officially" He said just as Joe got out of the car.

"Oh?" I walked to her. "Hi." I said smiling. I've known Joe but we've never gotten close. "Whats up?" I asked confused. "I'm here to warn you about Kai." She got right to the Chase. I tensed.

"Alaric tells me you have feelings for him." She said. I was about to deny it when she continued. "Don't. He will only brake your trust. He will destroy you as he has me and his entire family. He's a killer. I don't mean to be rude but if you get close to him..He will hurt you. He's a liar. He's a.." she was pissing me off.

I cut her off. "A defective twin? A black sheep? A monster?" I asked. She didn't respond to my rudeness. "Look Joe. Your family hurt him over and over for twenty two years and then locked him away when he messed up. Yeah killing is a big mess up but what do you expect when you treat someone like dirt their entire life because they're a little different?"

I asked but didn't give her time to answer me. "Maybe if you had been a better sister. Or stood up to your dick father everything could have been avoided. Maybe if you give him a second chance and show him he's not worthless things will change. Now if you'll excuse me I've got to go." I finished and began walking.

I heard her sigh and mumble "hope he's worth it.." I pondered the question for a while.

I was standing outside Kai's door. I could smell the drinks from out here. The door was unlocked so I let myself in and walked past all the empty wine and whiskey glasses in the kitchen.

If he was human..he'd be dead. I lightly knocked on his door and when I got no response I just walked in to see him sleeping. I smiled and walked over to his covers and began to cover him up. Within a blink I was pinned against the wall by the throat.

I screamed but stopped when I opened my eyes to see Kai. Kai lightly licked his lips. "Lilly? Why are you here?" he asked letting me go. "I wanted to check on you." I admitted.

His voice was deep and sleepy. He sounded slightly horse too. "I'm fine..leave." He said harshly. "I..I'm sorry.." I stuttered out. He sighed and ran a hand through his hair. "No. Wait I'm sorry." He said full of guilt.

I didn't know what to do. Do I leave? My body said run..but my mind was all no stay help. "It's fine.." I managed to my mumbled. "Lilly..I've just been searching..I just need some more time..please don't give up on me..not yet." He begged.

He thinks I'll give up? "Kai I'm never gonna give up on you. I'm your friend." I said firmly. His head snapped up and he smiled slightly. "I've never had a friend before.." he admitted.

"I'll stay and clean up a bit." I said. He nodded in agreement.

The sun has just went down. The room is completely clean. I'm getting ready to leave now. "What are you doing tomorrow?" Kai asked. He was on the couch watching me.

"What?" I asked confused. "Tomorrow we should hang out or something." He offered. I was in shock. Did..did Kai just ask me on a date?! "I..I actually have plans." I said nervously not sure how to read Kai anymore.

"Oh..with Elena?" he asked. "No..with Cade." I said. His head shot up at the unfamiliar name. "Who?" he asked looking slightly upset. His jaw was clenched. Wired.

"Some guy I met out with Elena. Are you okay?" I asked. "I'm fine..but you're going out with someone you just met?" he asked clearly not liking that. Is he jealous? No..there's no way.

"Well we aren't going out..we are just eating dinner. Besides he seemed nice." I said defensively. "Whatever." He grumbled. "I'm gonna go..maybe we can hang out another time?" I asked. "See ya." He said rudely.

I sighed and dropped it.
