"I could look after Tina for the weekend your away Sue, it would be no trouble at all." Mr O'Miles replied with an easy smile pointed at my mother.
After Liam had let us out that closet, the year eights had come charging in babbling about how the science classrooms looked for open evening, followed by parents and year sixes and fives, then Liam sending me a wink as he escaped the classroom and then finally my best friend appearing with my bottle of water.
With an hour full of me trying to get the attention of Maggie who was oblivious as she talked to year sixes, the history teacher I had just kissed talking to parents and the annoying year eights boasting to the year fives. At the end I had dragged Maggie out quickly ready to tell her my tale, only to be interrupted before I could start by Mr O'Miles himself thanking us for helping out tonight.
Cue for my mother to come dashing in complaining about the bad parking, and then to tell me that her sister could not look after me over the weekend. If my embarrassing mum, cringey best friend and the teacher I had just kissed in the same conversation wasn't bad enough- it soon got worse when my mum recognised him as her neighbour and then he told her he was my history teacher.
And being the ultra mature and perfectly normal mum she was she said "Oh Oliver, do you think you could look after Tina then? You already know each other because your her teacher and it wouldn't be like either of you have to go the distance."
And then Mr O'Miles had replied with those words which made me just want to run away and hide for a century.
"I still can't believe you asked my history teacher to babysit me!" I groaned, I was sat in the passenger seat of my mothers car as we pulled out of the schools car park moments after her embarrassing conversation and saying goodbye to Maggie who's dad was there to collect her.
"Why? It's not like I asked an old grumpy teacher who you hate, in fact you should be thanking me for asking that young attractive tall manly-"
"Mum!" I cried. "Couldn't I have just gone to Maggie's? Now it's going to be super awkward and weird."
"It's only going to be weird if you make it weird Tina." my mum commented before turning on the radio.
Staring out the window a mixture of emotions attacked me: dread, excitement and embarrassment. Lifting up my hand I felt my lips with a faint smile, I had kissed my history teacher.
"Did you have fun tonight?" I heard my mum ask.
"Yeah," I smiled again. "It was great."
However wrong it was- I had definitely enjoyed that kiss.
