Just A Baby

Sure enough Phoebe and Maggie were right, Celia and her barbie dolls did throw themselves at him so obviously, but Mr O'Miles kept on gently avoiding their flirting. I kept my head down like I had been for most of the lessons, ignoring the banter and conversations in this one lesson; I didn't want to look weirdly observant this lesson.

"Sirrrrr," Celia's annoying shrill rang through the classroom. "Are you single?"

My ears pricked up and I tried to keep my eyes on the textbook in front of me, despite the fact Annabelle was now praying under her breath she hopes he's single.

After a moments hesitation, Mr O'Miles essex voice ran through the classroom "Yes, yes I am."

I could just picture Celia's smirk, I heard Annabelle mutter a 'thank God' and a few girls started to giggle. I would have to tell Maggie and Phoebe after this lesson.

So he was single. Not that i cared...

"Okay, so I want you all to get into partners and we're going to be going into the computer room to do a presentation quiz for open evening." Mr O'Miles called over the class.

Annabelle and I nodded to each other, knowing despite the fact we would just end up googling Alex Turner and Josh from Waterloo Road, we would still go together.

"I'll pick the best two and they will be used for open evening." Mr O'Miles continued.

Open Evening is this thing our school does for the primary school children in their last years- they come visit the high school their planning on going to in September, and take a tour and see what goes on. Basically it's selling the school to ten year olds so they'll come here in about a years time.

"Remember previous open evenings Tina?" I turned around to face Toby, who was smirking slightly.

"You and Maggie snogging behind the sports hall with me gossiping on the phone three feet away? How could I forget." I laughed.

Toby and Maggie used to kind of be together in year nine, they snogged on many occasions and dated on two occasions but it didn't end well. Yet, we managed to sneak away from the teacher we were supposed to be helping- I ended up on the phone to Romany, Toby and Maggie snogged and then it got out throughout the school about Mags and Toby.

"And we dared you to snog Toms hand?" Toby laughed.

"I pecked it and he FORCED me to continue!" I laughed at the memories of our fourteen/thirteen year old selves.

"Miss Riley?" I looked up at Mr O'Miles. "Something the two of you wish to share with the rest of class?"

"No." Toby answered for me. "Hint why we weren't being loud." I kept my head down, Toby wasn't exactly a big rebel or badass but he had a record for detentions.

"Is that so? Well how come I heard exactly what you just said?" Mr O'Miles challenged. A few girls giggled even though he didn't make a joke.

"Because you were listening in?" Toby scoffed, and then fist bumped the boy next to him and nodded at Zack from a row behind.

"Why would I want to?" Mr O'Miles smirked. "Lower your voices was all I was saying."

Toby looked at Mr O'Miles with a raise eyebrow and a smug smile and then stood up from his chair. "Make me."

"I would, but it's basically illegal since your only a baby at fifteen." Mr O'Miles smirked, the girls all laughed and the boys all made 'OOO' sounds.

Toby shook his head, picked up his bag from under his table and stormed out of the classroom and slammed the door on his departure. All eyes turned to me, which made me look at Annabelle's lilac hair as a distraction.

"Right. Well, who wants to help give out the textbooks?" Mr O'Miles smiled at the class, he caught my eye. He raised his eyebrow in an almost daring way and I felt myself be a little annoyed at the smugness of his ways and shook my head and glared out the window.

'A baby at only fifteen?'

Maggie and Phoebe couldn't have been more wrong. He probably thought of me as some baby.
