Spoken Word :True Colours
Whiten, tighten, darken, lighten
Y'all need to be enlightened
before you get frightened
to show your true colours
and what it means to be somethin'.
Somethin' big, somethin' great
somethin' beautiful to emancipate.
But you fail to comprehend
the real beauty that lies within
that lays stagnant and dry
while you “primp and prim”
what's on the outside.
Now don't get me wrong
there's absolutely nothing wrong,
with a little exercise,
striving to look nice,
trying to entice,
but don't get in over your head
down a path you may wind up dead
But hey that's all been said.
So why change what's been inbred?
Though you may make a small change
It can lead to some becoming deranged.
Gets them all confused
being nothing like what they used...to be.
Just promise me one thing will remain
'cause there will be no one else to blame
and after all we've been through
I just want you to stay You.
