"Um where are you going?"
"Home" Xavier answered in a 'duh' tone
Cassie rolled her eyes "I figured that much, but why are we doing this way?"
"It's quicker" he shrugged carrying on down the path
Cassie walked tentitavly behind him, watching her step as she went "And also full of dark alleyways"
Xavier let of a huff of a breath as her rotated his head to look back at her "What are you scared?"
"Shut up," Cassie huffed pulling her jacket a little tigher around her "Let's just get this over and done with"
Xavier chuckled slightly as Cassie took off in front of him "Slow down Cass" he called to her darkening figure "Don't want nothing to happen if you storm off"
"Don't test my patience" she warned
"Oh come on its not that bad" he answered dodging a branch Cassie failed to move out of the way
"Says the guy on a push bike," Cassie shot down, and then added dramatically "Able to ride of into the horizan if any danger would occur"
"Who do you take me for?"
Cassie shrugged avoiding the question "Kind of ironic when you think about how I'm letting a practical stranger walk me home" she babbled
"I'm not a stranger"
"Well you're not exactly a long time friend are you?"
"You're point?" asked Xavier
"You could be anyone for all I know, we've only known eachother for the best part of a month"
Now it was Xavier's turn to shrug "I'm a nice guy, that's all there is to it"
Cassie gave a small nod concentrating on her footing as she attemtpted to avoid random pot holes. "So what made you move out here?"
"Stuff"
Cassie could tell this conversation was probably not going to go anywhere but she still decided to give it a go, anything was better than walking in silence.
"Care to elaborate?"
In the dim lighting Cassie noticed Xavier open his mouth to answer before taking her by the shoulder and leading her off to he right, the chain of his bike clanking as they went.
"Um where are we going?"
It was silent for a moment before Xavier decided to speak up, Cassie felt him shrug against her, "You wanted to know why I moved here"
Cassie tensed up under his grip ready to scream at a moments notice, Xavier must of sense it as he spoke once more.
"Don't worry I'm not going to kill you and leave you for dead"
Although he spoke jokingly Cassie wasn't ready just yet to let her guard down. When finally they came to stop she began to survey her surroundings. Even in the dark, she was vaguely able to make out where they were.
"Um why are we in the underpass?"
"Keep going" was all the response she got and so Cassie continued forward toward where the street lamps were more reliable. Standing under the light of the lamp soaked up the varied swirls of graffiti, mingled with leaflets adn posters that scattered the walls.
Waiting on Xavier to explain himslef she took a particular interest in a certain scene. In her own opiion not all grafiti was vandalism, sure it was sprawled across public ground bu some of these artists had real talent.
Stepping forward she took a closer inspecion at the work before her. Cassie's face saddened when she realised he scene that had been sprayed before her. Sprayed from a street level, the backdrop consisted of the outlines of buildings of all sizes, reached by porch steps shadoed by the night.
Some of the houses had an added yellow glow from which one could fathom was the glowing lights of occupied rooms, a sign of life, the night sky ranged between dark blues, purple and jet black the only soucre of pure light was the flourscent moon only to be accompanied by the scattered twinling ligs of a few stars glowing down on the main scene at the centre of the piece.
A body.
Other than the second figure leaing over in what could only be desribed as mourning the street was vacant of ay other activity.
Entrancd by the image before her, Cassie failed to notice Xavier's prescence behind her.
"His name was Ricardo"
Cassie flinch at his sudden presence "You did this?"
Xavier shrugged as he nodded his head
Turing back to the canvas she let her fingers trace a line in the middle of the wall "What happened?"
Xavier took a deep breath soaking up the picture, evidence that he was reliving the memory before letting out a sigh. "Stuff" he finally answered, pulling ut his phone form his jean pocket.
"Come on" he jerked his head to the right bofore I could ask him any more questions "Better get you home before they send you out a search party"
