Mavis & Zeref IV

Mavis's POV

I couldn't sleep well that night after that kind doctor cleaned my wounds. It saddens me that everyone that I loved the most died in the fire, even Master Bob. I'll always cherish the moments we had together. I still can't believe the man that I loved the most could do this! I just don't understand it. Why Zeref? Why...

"Mavis..." I opened my eyes and Zera was looking at me worriedly. I sat up straight from bed rubbing my tears away. "I'm sorry Zera. I really sorry." She looked surprised at first but then she sighed cupping my cheeks, "It's not your fault Mavis."

"It is! If only I didn't bring Zeref back to the mansion none of these would have happened." Zera rubbed the remaining tears, "Don't keep blaming yourself. At least we still have each other. I won't ever leave your side Mavis. I promise you that."

I muttered softly, "Zera..." and gave her a hug. "I see you are awake." I turned around seeing Jose leaning against the door. "Is the war over?" I asked as he came sat right next to me. He took out his cigarette and started smoking, "The war is over for now although there's still vampires still lurking around the forest."

"And the city?" said Zera.

"The city is saved. We managed to capture and kill them with our weapons."

I looked at the weapon beside him, "Your weapon...is it something special?" He looked at me confused at first then he took out his bow and arrow handing them over to me, "The hunter's weapon are special as it could kill vampires. Normal knives or guns won't even hurt them. Vampires are magical creatures and they can use magic but with these special weapons they won't be able to heal fast."

I took a good look at his arrow and bow the way it's being made, "Amazing, but what's the difference with these weapons and the normal ones?"

"Magic."

"But I thought humans don't have magic." He gave me a smirk and continued to explain as he took out another cigarette. "Well, have you heard of wizards?" Both of us nodded our heads. "Yeah so generally the wizards were helping the hunters. They merged their magic with our weapons into special ones. The first hunter was a wizard actually. His name was Goldmine. His parents were killed by vampires and so he decided to take revenge. He trained hard using his fighting skills day and night until the day came where he found the vampires that killed his parents. He was determined and fought with them using his sword and magic. However, he still couldn't beat them and he decide to merge the two together and finally killed them off in one blow. That's when he decided to create an organization where humans can be trained as hunters.

Over many years pass, hunters begin protecting the city and hunting down vampires. I was excited seeing them fighting against vampires and then I decided to become one of them too. That's when I met him, Goldmine. I was amazed by his skills and he really taught me how to use the weapons and fight. We became close friends and I became one of the best hunter. Then one day we encountered a strong pure blood vampire and his name was Zeref."

My eyes widened the moment he mentioned that name. "Zeref..."

"Exactly. The hunters fought him and one by one they were dead by his hands. I was there too alongside with the man. I was overwhelmed by the power that Zeref possess. We decided to lounge at him but he managed to spot us and attacked us with his dark magic. Black aura started to engulf and my body started having weird black marks. I couldn't stand the pain and then I saw bright light flashes out. At that moment the black marks in me disappeared and I saw Goldmine standing in front of me facing Zeref. His body was still glowing in white light and they both went against each other. They fought endlessly till Zeref had an advantage and he gave the final blow to him striking his darkness into his heart. I ran to him as Zeref vanished into the shadows. I held Goldmine in my arms as he breathe his last. Before he died he managed to say a few words. He told me to be the new leader and lead the organization. He was a great man."

I watched Jose telling the story and slowly he was looking to the ground feeling nothing but regret. I patted on his shoulders, "You did your best Jose and look at the results. If it weren't for you, both of us would be dead. Thank you." He starred at me as I smiled at him.

Zera clapped her hands together, "I got a question are you also a wizard?"

"I'm no wizard at all. I was given the special weapons the moment I joined in the organization." said Jose. "As I said wizards were helping the hunters. So that's where special weapons were forged. Got it?" Zera nodded her head as I stood up from the bed. "I have decided."

"What?" asked Zera.

"I want to be a vampire hunter." Both of them starred at me speechless till I broke the silence. "Is there something wrong?"

"I'm not sure whether you could join us or not." said Jose. I went over to him and begged him with my cute puppy eyes, "Please Mr. Jose? I'll try my best to keep up with the hard training."

Jose thought for a moment. Finally he sighed rubbing his head, "Oh fine you can." I was gleaming happily and Zera face palmed. I grabbed her hands and asked Jose to let her join too. Zera gasped, "What? No way I'm joining!" I looked at her with my pouted face, "Don't be a wimp Zera."

"Alright for your sake I'll join too if that's fine with you mister."

"Well as long you two keep up the hard training. Tomorrow morning you both would register at the office and we will start training immediately understand?!?"

"Yes Sir!"

"Good then see ya tomorrow."

Determination...was that one word in my mind that I would strive to keep on living. I found a new life becoming a vampire hunter to protect my loved ones and the people in Crocus. I felt Zera gripped my hand as I faced her. She gave a warm smile, "Someday you'll be the strongest hunter in the world."

I smiled back, "Not without you. We both will be the strongest. I'll show you something that is amazing Zera and you can bet on that."

And so we started our training and we became the top skilled hunters by aged 13. I became the captain and was leading the hunters as Zera became my assistant. Sir Jose was still the leader but he decided to split some responsibilities for me to handle. You can say that I was his second hand in command. We protected the city for almost a year and most vampires were no where to be seen. The king and queen were pleased with our service and they made us special knights of Fiore. I was standing at the hunter organization's balcony admiring the view as Zera popped out from behind, "Mavis come on! Let's go before we are late for the ball tonight."

"I'm coming." I said as I followed her. All went to well till the day I finally came face to face with Zeref and his army.
