Sleep-deprived

I stood at the alter in my gorgeous, fancy wedding gown. All of my friends stood around me, or sat in the church pews. All eyes were on me. I should have been ecstatic. Only one thing was preventing that. One thing was missing...Damon.

I turned to Stefan and walked over to him.

"Where is he?" I whispered in a hushed and fearful tone.

"I honestly don't know, Jane." He said softly. I bit my lower lip softly as tears welled up in my eyes.

"He's standing me up?!" I choked out. Stefan nodded slowly, regret showing in his eyes. I let out a choked sob and turned away from the crowd.

"Jane." I heard Elena call from behind me. "Jane?!"

My eyes snapped open and I lifted my head quickly from my desk. A choked sob escaped my lips as I tried to breathe in. Elena carefully lowered herself into the chair next to me and placed a comforting hand on my back.

"Jane, what's wrong?" she asked as she rubbed my back.

"Bad, bad dream." I muttered as I shook my head and wiped at my eyes while trying to calm myself.

"What was it?" she asked curiously, while keeping that calm tone of voice.
I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. Taking a second to collect myself, I then opened my eyes and looked down at my hands.

"That Damon stood me up at the alter." I mumbled quietly.

"Oh, sweetie!" She exclaimed as she took my hands in hers. "Damon loves you... too much, I think. He would never do that!"

I shrugged and kept my eyes on our hands.

"Maybe, but what if he changes his mind? I haven't exactly been the best girlfriend. Then his proposal... so quick after the vampire attacked and him wanting the wedding to happen so quickly...What if he stills loves Katherine? He was going to marry her!" I trailed off as I listed all the reasons for why he might change his mind.

Elena let out an annoyed sigh and turned me so that I was facing her.

"Jane, we all have our faults. It's what makes us human... Even vampires have faults if you hadn't noticed. And as for the proposal...well, it wasn't as sudden as you think." She said to me. I looked up at her with confusion and curiosity.

"What are you talking about, El?" I asked cautiously.

"I'm talking about how Damon had been planning on asking you to marry him for weeks before he did." She explained.

"And how would you know that?" I asked disbelievingly.

"Because he asked for Stefan's and my blessing a couple of weeks before." Elena said with a smile.

"Turns out you actually changed his entire personality. Girl power haha"A small smile crossed my lips as I processed this information.

"Really?" I asked. She just nodded. I smiled lightly, but it soon slid off my face as I rubbed my hands over my face.

"What if this is a mistake?"

"Jane, marrying Damon is not a mistake! And for me to say that about Damon, he must have done something to make me like him this much." Elena exclaimed. I sighed and nodded my head slowly.

"Yeah, you're right. I'm just a little too sleep-deprived to think straight." I said as I looked across the room. Another sigh escaped my lips at what I saw.
