Tom's POV

************************

"We are going to have to abandon ship!" I shouted at Antonio. We were being shot at by the Rogue troops mounted on the shores of the island. I didn't know how we were going to get past them. Then, I had an idea.

"We must abandon or turn around," Antonio called back. "Please, sir, I must return to my wife and boys."

"Hear me out, Antonio. I have an idea." I told him. I ran over to the railing of the boat and looked down. I scanned the surface of the water looking for crooks and crevices in the bottom of the water.

After a few seconds I sensed a small underwater cave.

"There," I said, bringing Antonio over to see it. "We can abandon ship and hideout there until their guard is down. Once it is safe, you may wait here and I will go in and find my Maisie. I know she is here. I know my brother is also here. I will not put you in any more danger." I swore. He nodded quickly and we jumped into the water from the backside of the boat so that the Rogues could not see us.  We swam to the bottom, about thirty feet down, and went into the cave. It was dark; without vampire senses we would not be able to see anything. We would be able to hold our breaths for days, our lungs being able to extract oxygen from the water and converting it into a usable gas.

Here, we would wait until the their threat was gone and I could go in and safely find my soulmate. And I could settle things with Carmichael once and for all.

Maisie's POV

************************

It must have been 24 hours that I had first awoken in the cellar. I wasn't struck with any more visions. I had reached just 2 feet below the surface of the ground, and I was waiting until I knew it was safe to escape.

Every few minutes I felt the vibrations of someone walking above the cellar. I would wait until there were no more vibrations to make my great escape.

It was about 4 hours later. I decided it was time to get out of this place.

I drank the rabbit blood to give me a boost of energy and then climbed up through the hole in the ceiling. I knocked down the last two feet of dirt and stuck my head up through the hole and looked around. It was dark, but my senses allowed me to see anything with a heat signature.

No one was close. I listened for the crashing waves and in half a second I was sprinting off towards the crashing waves. It was time to be reunited with my lover.

As I approached the shore, I saw some armed werewolves scoping the perimeter, pacing back and forth. I stealthily hid from them, making my way closer and closer to the water.

Tom? Where are you?

I called out. Still nothing. Maybe I wasn't doing this 'linking' thing correctly. The last time we had a major mind connection was when he had almost been staked to death...

I ran back into the deep forest and broke a large rock. I grabbed a jagged piece and pierced it into my side without hesitation. I held back my cries of pain as I opened up my mind, trying to reach Tom. Blood was coming out of the wound, but the wound was not life-threatening. I would have to jeopardize my life to be able to reestablish our connection. I held the jagged rock firmly between my hands and plunged it into my chest. I just scraped the side of my heart. I collapsed in agonizing pain, ripping the rock back out and tossing it to the ground as I writhed in pain.

Tom, please...

Maisie? Maisie what happened?

He was there. I felt his presence in my mind.

I escaped. But I need you. I am about a mile in from the shore. I had to jeopardize my life to connect with you.

I am coming. Stay there. I am coming for you, baby. I love you.

I love you too, Tom.

I gasped for air. I looked down and saw my dress and hands becoming drenched in my blood. I felt lightheaded as I tried to put pressure on it to stop the bleeding.

Then it hit me; the wolves would be able to smell my blood.

I listened for any streams that ran into the ocean. There was one about a hundred yards away.

I began dragging myself towards it. I had to soak myself to get rid of my scent. Each yard was agonizing, but after 5 minutes I was there. I let myself fall into the stream. The cold water rushed around me.

I'm in the stream

I sent the message to Tom before I fell unconscious.
