To change it up, here's Tom's Point Of View!

"What do you want?" I asked. He just stared at me with a mocking smile. "I don't know what you want from me." I grumbled impatiently. He just cocked his head to the side and barked.

Chance would not stop following me around. Maybe he smelled Maisie's scent around me.

I wasn't allowed to see her. If it were Siva's orders or guarded by knights I would have broke through. But by Kassimuss's rules only Siva was allowed in the room.

Everything that happened last night was a blur. We still didn't know how they broke in through our security. Three guards were killed and their ceremonies were already being prepared. When a guard or soldier dies on behalf of the protection of royals, their family receives a check of one thousand Ictras the name of Vampirian currency. One Ictra from our empire is equal to fifty from their empire.

I never knew they had become so powerful and stealthy. I had suffered a minor injury to my nose, but nothing compared to Maisie. I had changed her just in time.

I walked around right outside the door to the infirmary. I was dying just to see her. We didn't know that my venom got into her system quick enough, but Siva said she was getting better. She had a strong heartbeat, a good sign.

See, vampires aren't bloodsucking demons who burn in sunlight and are basically the living dead.

Royals have special chefs who mix blood with all the food. We don't burn in sunlight, but we have fangs. They're a weapon, and sometimes a toy. Men grow out their fangs to impress ladies and to warn off other males.

Maisie hasn't seen mine yet, and I was hoping she would get a chance to. Sometimes hungry vampires grow out their fangs, signaling they need blood.

I paced back and forth outside of the door. Hours passed. I knew it could possibly take up to three days for the transformation to complete, but I put a lot of venom in her bloodstream. I had bitten her neck particularly injecting the jugular to make sure the venom reached her heart before she bled out.

It broke my heart to see her dying helplessly all because of me. Why did I leave her defenseless against them on the stairs in plain view of them?

"Hey, how is she?" Jacie came up to me.

"Jacie! Were you hurt in the fight?" I asked, hugging her.

"No, Nathan and I were fortunate enough to escape to a safe room with the escort of two guards. But the village infirmary is over-flowing and they would like the royals to come and help out." Jacie explained. I imagined many guards and soldiers were injured. The intruders were no easy men to defeat.

"Siva is busy caring for Maisie. I really do not want to leave her." I sighed.

"Completely understandable, don't worry. Nathan is already down there and Danielle and Talia are going with Max. Jay and Hailey have been at the other hospital." She told me.

"You know, Maisie will need you in her next few months. You would help her, wouldn't you? I know I'm her mate, but you could handle the girly things." I asked hopefully.

"Tom, of course. You're basically my brother. I'd do anything for you." She smiled.

"Thanks, Jace. It's only been about fifteen hours and the transformation will take over two days. I want to go help at the hospital but I can't bring myself to leave Maisie." I told her apologetically.

"Do not worry. With all of us there will be plenty of help. I've gotta run. Be safe and careful. Maisie will turn out perfectly fine." She smiled before walking away.

I remembered when Jacie first arrived. Before her, the newest was Siva's mate, Danielle.

Danielle helped Jacie through the firsts of being a vampire. When Danielle was new, Talia helped her. And when Talia was new, Hailey helped her. I was glad that Maisie would have Jacie, Danielle, Talia, and Hailey to help her through this.

"Tom, Kassimuss gave me permission to allow you to see her." I heard Siva say. I wasted no time entering the room, Chance trotting in behind me. I froze as soon as I saw her. The transformation was barely started. Her body was in something like a coma.

She was in her pajamas still from last night, a tank top and shorts. About four think layers of gauze were wrapped around her upper arm where she was stabbed, and around her thigh where she was stabbed again. I couldn't bring myself to look at her side. It was the worst injury. Siva said it punctured her liver and that if the transformation hadn't been enacted any later she would have died.

I shivered just thinking of what could have happened. I promise to protect her. I promised she had nothing to worry about.

I was wrong, and it almost cost Maisie her life.
