I was awoken a pounding on the door before it opened. I head footsteps and some talking, but I was too tired to wake up.

"Maisie?" I heard his soft, yet raspy, voice ask. I rolled over and opened my eyes to see five pairs of eyes looking at me.

"Mmhmm?" I asked, putting my hands over my eyes to cover them from the blinding light.

"We have to go. Right now. Put this on." Tom told me. I felt clothing in my hands. I sat up and saw he had given me his clothes. I wasn't going to complain, however.

I slipped on the sweatpants and rolled them up at the waist band and put on the t-shirt.

"Why am I wearing your clothes?" I asked, brushing out my hair.

"So my scent is strong on you." Tom told me. "Now put sneakers on. We will be walking."

"Hurry up." Nathan said impatiently.

"What's going on?" I asked.

"I will explain it in a minute. We just have to go." Tom told me, handing me a bag. It was packed with heavy clothing and some necessities. I was getting really nervous now.

"Where are we going?" I asked as we left the bedroom. "Where's Chance?"

"A safe house. The other boys and their mates will meet us there. Two top guards have gone there already and brought Chance with them. The Wolvian Empire have declared war on us, and our army can only keep them so far away from the palace. Therefore, we must hideaway at a top secret place in the mountains deep inside our territory." Tom explained quickly, keeping his arm securely around me as we walked out the back door. It was the middle of the night.

"I'm scared, Tom." I whimpered as we disappeared from sight of the palace into the woods.

"I will protect you, Maisie. Please, don't be afraid. Just stay close to me. We can't take any vehicles because the forest becomes very dense. We must go on foot." He told me, holding me securely.

"How long?" I asked.

"One hundred miles to the base of the mountains. If we run it should only take a few hours. Your body is new to your super powers, so you might not run as fast as me." Tom said.

"So we run? Like vampires?" I asked and he nodded. "Okay. Let's do it."

And with that, we took off like the wind.

I felt exhilarated as we ran side by side through the trees. I felt a bit worried I might run straight into a tree, but that fear dissipated as I realized my senses allowed me to navigate nicely and weave through the dense forest.

I breathed in through my nose, the scents of everything around me filling my nose.

I could smell the blood of the surrounding animals, hear almost every chirp of the nighttime insects, and sometimes I could hear the heartbeats of larger animals.

I felt at peace with the world around me, as if I was really meant to be in this place. I looked beside me to look at Tom- a big mistake. His perfection distracted me and made me lose my focus, sending me stumbling over my own feet as they were moving too fast for me to control.

I flew forward and heard Tom call my name as I slammed into a tree and rolled down a short hill.

"Maisie! Are you okay?" Tom asked, helping me up.

"Ouch." I groaned, standing up.

"That's why you have you focus when you're running through a dense forest so quickly." Tom chuckled, kissing my cheek.
