"Maisie? Love, wake up." I heard his gruff voice say softly. I groaned and opened up my eyes, seeing Tom standing before me.
"Tom." I sighed in relief, embracing him in a tight hug. He kissed my forehead, then my cheek, my nose, my other cheek, and my chin, and then finally my lips.
"I am so so sorry. Talia and Jacie told me everything. And I know I lied to you, I know I didn't have the past you would expect. But I need you to know one important thing; I love you with all my heart. Every second I fought on that battlefield was for you. Those stakes that were impaled in my chest, I survived them because of you, Mais. I love you." He told me sincerely.
"Thank you, Tom. And I was honestly angry with you... but I can't control your past. Just promise me you will be completely honest with me in the future?" I asked.
"I promise." He smiled.
"Tom, Maisie, you have received a letter from the President of the Vampirian Council." Hailey said, handing us a letter.
"Solaris?" Tom asked.
"There's a Vampirian Council?" I asked.
"Thomas, you're such an idiot. You haven't barely told Maisie a bloody thing about us, and she's due to be queen!" Hailey scolded, smacking him on the head making me laugh.
"Ow." Tom whined. "Anyways, Mais, yes, we have a Council. They help the King and Queen with decisions and manage town meetings and make sure things run smoothly."
"Oh. So who is Sole... are is?" I asked.
"His name is Solaris. He is the President of the Council. It used to be Mufasa..." he trailed off and I immediately felt a rush of guilt. "It is not your fault, Maisie." He added quickly.
"It is... but go on." I sighed.
"Solaris is Mufasa's younger brother. However, when the next generation of rulers becomes in nine years, Nathan will become the President. You and I will be King and Queen, and since Siva has lost his position as Beta, it will go to Max. And Jay will become Vice President as he was third in line for Beta." He explained. I nodded, pretending I understood what he was saying.
"Why must it be so complicated?" I asked.
"It really isn't. Think of it this way; you were born in the United States, yeah?" He asked and I nodded. "Well, in the States, there is a president, Vice President, and a cabinet. The cabinet consists of the Speaker of the House, Secretary of State, and all those other fancy named guys, right? Well our government is set up in a similar way."
"Oh." I murmured, going over it in my head.
Suddenly, in my mind an image of wolves hiking up the mountain flashed, disappearing quickly. I jumped up and Tom and Jacie looked at me oddly.
"Did you just see that?" I asked, looking around. The image seemed so real, so vivid.
"See what?" Jacie asked.
"Are you okay, Mais?" Tom asked, standing up beside me.
"I-I... I saw it... the wolves. They were coming up the mountain. Headed for us." I said, recalling the image.
Jacie looked quickly at Tom and they exchanged a few glances.
"What does it mean?" I asked.
"Jacie, go warn the others." Tom commanded and Jacie quickly left.
"Tom, what's going on?" I asked.
"You had a vision. It was a simple image because your powers are just starting out." He explained.
"Powers?" I asked with wide eyes.
"Yes. One in every thousand vampires has powers. Such as getting visions, or being able to read minds or move objects with their minds. You, my love, have shown to be a seer." He said, leaning down to kiss me. By instinct I jerked away and he looked at me sympathetically.
"I'm sorry." I murmured.
"No, don't be. I can't just lie to you and apologize then expect you to be okay with it. I understand." He told me.
"Tom, who was it?" I asked, looking down at the floor.
"Who was what?"
"Your first."
"That isn't a discussion for right now, Mai-"
"Tom. Just tell me." I interrupted. He sighed.
"...Ava."

"You can't just ignore him, hun." Danielle said softly, handing me a glass. I could smell what was inside, and I didn't want to drink it. I couldn't stand it.
"I know. I don't know what I was thinking by asking." I whispered, placing the glass down on a table. Because of my vision, we all were cramped down in a tiny cellar deep below the small house and troops were now surrounding the mountain.
"You were curious. It's okay." She replied.
"How do you and Siva maintain such a healthy relationship?" I wondered.
"I don't honestly know. I know we both love each other very much. But I know you and Tom love each other greatly." She told me and I nodded.
"I'm new to this whole 'love' thing." I sighed, massaging my temples.
"It's alright." She chuckled. "So was I when I met Siva. And trust me when I say this; when I first saw him, I fell immediately in love. That's how mating works." She smiled. "I remember when we first met... and our first date he set up a little dinner in the ballroom of the palace and we danced all night long."
I smiled as she told me the story. Tom and I had never gone on a real date. And he never truly proposed to me.
I felt almost jealous of Danielle and Siva. Why couldn't Tom and I have a relationship like that?
