Last To Know (The Wanted)

Chapter Seven

When my eyes opened, it took me a minute to get used to the sunlight streaming in through the windows. My eyes shifted to Tom's face. He looked so peaceful as he slept. He really was beautiful. You know, in a guy way. I guess handsome was a better word.

He had long eyelashes that framed his brown eyes well and perfect pink lips. His arm was loosely around my waist but our bodies were touching which I was okay about.

I was thinking about the whole vampire thing when Tom began to wake up.

"Morning, beautiful." He smiled. He held me closer to him and our bodies lay up right against each others. I held my breath, not feeling comfortable so close. No, I wasn't going to run again.

After a moment it felt nice to be in his arms. They held me perfectly and I fit right next to him. He smelled amazing.

"I'm so sorry about yesterday and the day before. I was being so stupid. I had no idea what I was doing." Tom sighed.

"It's fine. Really. I shouldn't have run." I replied.

There was a pounding at the door.

"Prince Thomas, Alpha Kassimuss wishes to see you and Miss Maisie." Someone said. I stifled a laugh.

"What?" Tom asked me.

"Prince?" I burst out laughing.

"We will be there in ten minutes." Tom replied in a stern voice to whoever was on the other side of the door.

"It really is an emergency, your honor." The guy said. Tom was getting impatient.

"Five minutes." Tom shouted. He replied 'yes sir' in a small voice before leaving. "We better get up and get ready."

I nodded and waited for him to go into the bathroom before getting up. I was in the middle of changing my clothes when Tom left the bathroom and entered the room. I shrieked and covered his behind the bed.

"Privacy please?" I asked in an irritated tone.

"Maisie..." he sighed. He was about to say something but closed his mouth and then nodded and went back into the bathroom.

I quickly threw on a white t-shirt with a purple sweatshirt over it and black leggings with converse.

"Okay, I'm done." I said. He came out and I had to look at the wall while he dressed.

"Let's go see what Kassimuss wants." Tom said, opening the door. I followed him as we walked through the palace. I still didn't know my way around and it had been four days.

Wait, four days?

And I was supposed to be a vampire within five...

I stopped walking. And Tom stopped and looked at me.

"Are you okay, Maisie?" He asked worriedly.

"I think I'm gonna be sick." I said. I felt lightheaded.

"There's bathroom right there." He pointed. I ran into it and emptied everything in my stomach into the toilet. Tom came running in after me, holding my hair back.

I flushed and sat back against the wall, breathing heavily.

"Mais, are you okay? What's wrong?" He asked. I could hear the worry in his voice.

"I know why Kassimuss wants to see us. You haven't turned me yet." I said, tears welling up in my eyes. I was terrified.

"I will buy us time. Trust me, Maisie. I don't want to turn you until you're ready, but I have to eventually." Tom told me.

"I'm scared." I said softly, looking up at him.

"Do not worry, love. You don't have to be scared..."

"What is it like? To be turned?" I asked. I couldn't bring myself to look at him. He was the one who had to turn me.

"To be honest, I don't remember. Why don't you ask Jacie? She's the newest in the palace. She'll tell you everything you know." Tom told me.

"Really? Okay. I haven't met her yet." I smiled. Nathan said Jacie and I would be good friends, and I hoped that was true.

"You know, Nathan isn't the only one whose found his soulmate. Siva has his. Her name is Danielle. And Max's is Talia, and Jay's is Hailey."

"So... you're the oldest but everyone found their soulmates before you?" I asked, feeling somehow guilty.

"Yes, but it isn't your fault. I spent most of my life not looking for you. Training, actually."

"Tom... I have a question. If vampires live for eternity, why is Kassimuss rushing this?" I asked.

"It's... a long story." Tom said, avoiding eye contact.

"Don't hide anything from me, Tom." I said.

"I will tell you. In time. Not right now. Let's go or Kassimuss will think we blew him off." He said. I decided to let it go and follow him to meet with Kassimuss.
