Chapter Fifteen

*** This is in Tom's POV***

When I woke up, I looked down beside me to see Maisie's small fragile body curled up against me. My arm was wrapped firmly around her, holding her tight against me. Her skin was warm on mine and I felt more comfortable than ever.

I couldn't really believe what had just happened. I was so angry at Kassimuss I wasn't even thinking...

All I wanted to do was mate with her. There was nothing Kassimuss could do about it now.

It seemed as though Maisie was dead asleep and wouldn't be waking up anytime soon, so I carefully slid away and went to the bathroom.

I had no clothes on anyways so I prepared to take a shower. Reaching for a towel from the closet, I saw long red marks all over my back in the reflection of the mirror above the sink.

I chuckled to myself, looking at them. She must be a wolverine.

A few were deep and scraped up my skin, but her nails weren't very long and only left red lines.

I started the water and let the water rain over me. The hot water felt amazing. I smiled; this was what I had always wanted. I knew Maisie probably didn't love me yet, but this was good. Now Kassimuss's plan to split us up would never work.

About fifteen minutes later I was dressed for weight training. I had promised Maisie could come with me today. Walking over to her, I gently tucked her hair behind her ear.

"Maisie. Baby, wake up." I whispered, lightly shaking her shoulder. She barely acknowledged me in her sleep.

I bent down and pressed my lips softly against hers and chuckled when she began to kiss me back.

"I could wake up to that everyday." She smiled when I pulled away.

"You'd better get ready if you want to see me weight train." I winked. She smiled wider and got up. I gave her some privacy and looked away as she went to the bathroom to shower.

"Sorry about your back, by the way." She giggled through the door before turning on the water.

"So what do you do in the weight room?" Maisie asked as we went down to the kitchen to grab some breakfast.

"Lift weights, body training, core workouts, just stuff to keep in top shape." I told her as I grabbed two cups of 'coffee' from the pot. As far as Maisie knew, it was coffee.

"What weight do you lift?" She asked while I made us both a bowl of granola cereal.

"We started with one hundred, two hundred... sometimes we go up to five hundred, but anything higher than that might break through the floors." I chuckled.

"That's inhuman."

"Love, we're not human." I told her.

"So, vampires have like, super strength? Do we burn in the sun? Can I touch real silver? Do we-"

"Mais." I laughed. "Yes, we have heightened strength and speed and our five senses are just as well heightened. We do not burn in the sun because we can control our body temperature."

"Oh... I guess those shows and movies aren't very factual."

"Those vampire movies don't know what they're talking about." I shook my head.

"Tom, I have a question..." she said suddenly with a stern expression. "How did you find me?"

I stayed silent for a few moments. How did I find her?

"I mean, why were you in that realm? You always tell me I can't go back there so... why were you there?" She asked.

"There aren't many blood sources here. We don't like hunting here. So we have hunting parties. Every week dozens of hunting parties are sent all over the world to hunt animals and bring their blood here for the entire empire."

"That sounds fantastical. How can that feed so many vampires?"

"Well, here's the thing. Each small village has their own party. And each party hunts in it's own hunting territory. Now, the palace has it's own hunting party and it's territory is Britain. One man from our hunting party went missing and me and Max went with them to try to find him. Then we found Chance and then stumbled across you. I knew by your scent that you were mine. But my mind wasn't straight and I didn't really process it."

"Do you think it was just a coincidence?"

"No. 'Twas fate that brought us together." I smiled and she giggled.

"What is that I smell? You two have finally done it?" Jay teased as he came in with his arm around Hailey.

"Oh, leave them alone, Jay. It took us almost a month." Hailey scolded while Jay blushed. "Congratulations, you two."

"Congrats on what?" Siva came in with Danielle. "Oh... you two..."

"Wait, you can smell it?" Maisie asked, her eyes wide. "I showered..."

"Yes, but I actually can see lovebites all over your neck." Siva winked. Maisie blushed deeply and looked away, her hand going up to cover her neck.

"There's no need to be ashamed," I told her. "I want everyone to know you're mine and only mine." I brushed her hand away from her neck. "Besides, you weren't complaining yesterday when I gave you-"

"Shut up, Tom." She hissed, her face bright red.

"Oh, honey, you're blushing!" Danielle said in a teasing tone.

"Aw, how adorable!" Everyone cooed.

"Piss off." I told them.

"Someone's grumpy. Seriously, Mais, how do you even feel with him?" Jay muttered before leaving with Hailey.

"Let's go." I told Maisie, leading her outside. The guards let us by and we began walking towards the weight building.
