Lauren.
The drive home for me is mostly silent, a part from 1975 playing softly in the background, Harmony is completely passed out in the backseat, Camila's head is resting on my lap, her legs laid across the rest of the seat, my hand trapped between her hands and chest and she cuddles with it, it's a good thing I've always drove with one hand, because I would have felt incredibly guilty pulling it away from her.
I can't help but already feel guilty for suggesting that I take Camila to see her family, but if we hadn't, she still wouldn't have known that her sister is dead, I still can't believe it, I don't know the full story of what happened, I don't even know if Camila knows, I'm shocked and disgusted that her parents didn't even contact her to let her know what happened, if that were my parents, I'd never want to see them again.
I pull up outside of Camila's apartment building and leave the engine running as I stare down at her, today has been such a rollercoaster, I can't blame her for passing out, as much as I hate to wake her, I won't be able to carry her and Harmony up to her home, I use the hand that isn't trapped to run my fingers through her loose curls.
"Camz" I mumble quietly, not wanting to wake the small child in the backseat.
"Hey" I say slightly louder, giving her hand a slight squeeze.
Camila shifts slightly, trying to turn over to face my stomach.
"Hey babe, we're home, you need to wake up" I tell her softly.
Her eyes flutter open and she stares up at me, her expression completely blank, not yet knowing how to react.
"Are you awake enough to make your way up?" I ask her.
She nods her head and brings her hands up to rub the sleep out of her eyes before sitting up, she bends down and picks up the box from her sister, running her fingers across the top of it, I can see that she wants to open it, but I think she is scared to.
"I'll get Harmony okay" I tell her quietly, finally turning off the engine.
Camila just nods her head, her eyes still trained on the box in her lap.
It took me a few more minutes to finally get Camila out of the car and up her apartment, but we got there in the end, I couldn't really complain or say anything, she has a right to feel this way, so I can't blame her in anyway possible, all I can do is be there for her when she needs to me, and give her space if that's what she wants.
I carefully lay Harmony down in bed and change her into pyjama's trying my best not to wake her, but failing as her eyes flutter open and she mumbles my name.
"Hey princess, I didn't mean to wake you, go back to sleep okay" I mumble kissing her forehead and tucking her into bed.
"Is mama okay?" She asks sleepily.
"I'm looking after her, you don't have to worry" I whisper quietly, running my fingers through her curls.
"Give her cuddles, she likes cuddles when she's sad"
"Okay baby, I'll give her cuddles, get some sleep okay" I say softly.
"Okay, night night"
"Goodnight" I smile and kiss her forehead one last time before exiting her bedroom and closing the door behind me.
"Camz" I say softly walking into the living room to see her sitting on the sofa, the box resting on her lap, her hands clutching onto it.
"Hey" I say sitting down beside her.
I rest my hand on her back and she turns her head to face me.
"Come on beautiful, let's go to bed, you can open this in the morning okay?" I suggest and watch as she softly nods her head.
