Chapter Three
A Taste of Revenge
“Like, I can’t even express how awkward that was,” Kenzie said with the same hint of amusement in her tone as Harmony pulled the duffle bags from the back of the truck and handed them down to her companion.
Harmony sighed. “You can say that. Let’s just get this done quickly.”
“Oh relax. This will be fun!”
She nearly dropped a bag on top of Kenzie. “Fun?!”
“Yeah. I mean didn’t you see the lust in Alpha Haven’s eyes? He couldn’t keep his eyes off you,” she said with an overly dramatic tone.
The cringe Harmony experienced was completely unintentional. “The last thing I need is him having some kind of desire for me,”
Kenzie placed her hands firmly on her hips. “Be thankful you actually found your mate. Not all of us are so lucky.”
“We are forbidden by the Court to have any mating relations until retirement anyway so it hardly matters.”
She let out an aggravated groan. “I know. It’s silly really, forbidding us from being with our mates in anyway.”
“I mean, once a person is marked by their mate, they have their mate’s thoughts and feelings connected with theirs which can be very distracting for agents. Not to mention they more often than not end up with a baby within months of finding one another,” Harmony stated bluntly as she tossed down a bag of equipment.
Kenzie gave a mischievous grin. “Look at you being an expert on mating. Maybe that’s the reason you left, to avoid teen pregnancy.”
Harmony frowned and threw a bag roughly into Kenzie’s arms. “Shut up, you know why I left and you would know all this too if you read the handbook.”
With a scuff, Kenzie dropped the bag down. “Nobody has time with those manuals. Though I do have to admit it makes sense especially with our division.”
“Exactly. We-”
A burst of laughter from Kenzie caused her to jump and look to her friend questioningly.
“Remember that mission where we had to get information from that sorcerer?”
She grinned. “And our only idea was to seduce him?”
“I still have yet to see a man faint as quickly as he did.”
The two burst into a fit of laughter until they were interrupted by a sudden intruder clearing their throat and they both turned to see Archer standing with a couple of his male pack members behind him.
“Can we be of assistance, Alpha Haven,” Kenzie asked formally.
“I thought you girls might be in need of assistance yourselves so I brought some help,” he said gruffly.
“We don’t have many bags but we appreciate it, Alpha Haven,” Harmony said smoothly before swiftly throwing herself over the side of the truck, landing gracefully beside the men. She was startled to find unshielded surprise in their expressions, though she should expect as much as she had once barely been able to stand straight on solid, flat ground without falling over some invisible object.
Archer cleared his throat, drifting his eyes to everything but her. “At least allow us to carry your bags. You are our guests, after all.”
The two girl’s exchanged a look of pure mischief as they each grabbed a bag and stepped towards the men behind Archer, one of which she recognized as his friend named Jack. She ran her hand over the muscular arm of his companion and gently placed the duffle bag in his hand, softening her voice to an almost innocent yet suggestive tone. “It would be a big help. Thank you.” She ensured that her hand lingered softly on his bicep, taking notice of the light blush coming over his face before stepping away to join Kenzie after she had done the same in their path towards the house.
