JASON

I was sitting on the bed, flicking the lighter on and off to the sound of the rain that started to fall shortly after Sage climbed into the shower. I knew it was her way of calming herself down but I didn't like it. She had just recently stopped talking to me about everything that was going on and she was being distant. Now that she knows that I didn't hop out of the Blue Bloods she's probably going to come out and hate me. I don't blame her though. I have been lying to her this whole time...but she doesn't get it. I don't have a father that makes six figures that can give me money and get me nice things. I have to go to myself for the money. I have to do everything for me, myself, and I. When I heard the shower turn off I immediately tensed all the way up. My body went as hard as a rock. The door opened and wet feet placed themselves on the wood floors of her room. I looked up and saw her staring at me as her hair dripped water on the floor and formed a puddle at her feet. It wasn't my first time seeing her in nothing but a towel but tonight just seemed like every hair on my body stood on edge.

"I thought you left." She whispered, gripping onto the edge of her towel.

"You're more important than any job the boss wants us to go on." I muttered, unconsciously playing with the lighter in my hand.

She pulled a shirt on over her towel and then pulled it off. The shirt stopped mid-thigh, but I couldn't stop staring at her long tanned legs. "Are you leaving later on?"

"Have I ever let you sleep alone?" I muttered standing up.

"You make it seem like I do."

"Sage, please, I'm trying to apologize you know how hard that is for me."

"You should go do that job before your boss gets mad." She sighed walking past me to dresser. She started running her brush through her hair and then she folded her towel up placing it on the dresser. I walked over to her and stood behind her, wrapping my arms around her waist. "Let go." She muttered, pulling away from me. She turned off her light as she walked over to her bed and pulled back the sheets. "I'll be fine by myself tonight."

"Don't say that...I don't even remember what nights without you next to me feel like."

She closed her eyes and placed her back to me. I looked down at the ground as I sighed and walked out the room. I took the steps two at a time and opened the door, twisting the lock before slamming it shut. I muttered a string of profanities as I walked and got into my car. I pulled out of Sage's driveway and sped down the street to the apartments just outside of her neighborhood. I didn't want to be at home. I wasn't ready for what tonight was going to hold.

The next day I walked into the school building with Miles and Kaden. I spot Sage among the sea of cheerleaders and made my way past the group. Our eyes met for a little but instead I just looked away and kept walking into the school. "Jason!" I heard her call after me, but I started to walk faster. I was angry with her. I was angry because of the dreams. Last night made me feel like I was 10 all over again. I had only slept for an hour the whole night. I felt someone yank me back and there Sage was. "You ignored me."

"Doesn't feel nice right?" I asked.

"You look so tired." She whispered, placing her hands on both sides of my face.

"You don't have to act so sincere." I mumbled.

"Was the job seriously that hard?"

"I didn't do the job. Miles and Kaden took care of it." I sighed. "I wont get paid until next week, so I have to cancel our date for this Saturday."

"Why?"

"I don't get a cut for a job I didn't do."

"Then what's got you so tired?" she asked.

The bell rang and I tired to pull away but Sage kept me in place. "I have class."

"You're avoiding the question."

"I couldn't sleep last night."

"Why not?"

"I just didn't."

"You should rest."

"Yeah I have to wait until later. I have class now."

She grabbed my hand and intertwined our fingers. "Come on."

"No." but I could feel my feet following her out the building. "You're going to get into trouble."

"I don't care." She said, unlocking the Cherry red doors to her Jetta.

We got in the car and I guess I must've dozed off because the next thing I knew Sage was shaking me, telling me to wake up. I got out the car and walked up to the house door waiting for her to unlock it but when she got on the porch she just stopped and looked at me. "What?"

"Were you with...someone else last night?" she asked.

"No Sage, I wasn't with anyone else, why would you ask that?"

"You just look really tired, and even though you said you couldn't sleep, when you're over here you sleep perfectly fine." She shrugged, unlocking the door. She pushed it open and threw her keys on the counter. I followed her up the stairs and into her room. I immediately kicked my shoes off and peeled off my jacket. I pulled the covers back and buried myself in the smell of Sage's mango and vanilla body wash and her coconut shampoo. Sage climbed in beside me and on instinct I wrapped my arms around her waist, coiling my body around hers. "You're not telling me something." She whispered.

"Sage, leave it alone." I grumbled. When she fell silent I opened my eyes to see her watching me. "I'm not cheating on you and I wasn't out last night. I just couldn't sleep."

"They're back aren't they?"

"Yeah...whenever I don't sleep with you by my side they slip back into my head and torment me. Last night was the worst though."

"I'm sorry."

"Just don't make me do it again...no matter how mad you get at me, don't make me sleep by myself."

"I won't I promise." She mumbled. I leaned down and gave her a small kiss before burying my face in her neck inhaling her scent as I drifted off to sleep.
