"Mom, what if I told you, I was gay"
"Is this just a laugh-it-off question or do you want an honest answer," she asked, not looking at him while she made dinner
"I don't know...the second one"
She chuckled a bit
"I don't know, I've never imagined my children being gay, I know I'd be shocked if you told me, why," she said
Calvin was quiet for a minute, which worried her
"Mom, please sit down," he said
She turned to him, "Why"
"Because I have to tell you something"
She raised a brow, "Just tell me right now, you're not dying are you"
He shook his head, "I think you should sit for this though"
She furrowed her brow and placed the stove on low before sitting in a chair across from him
Her son took a nervous breath, "I'm gay"
When he said that, she made the mistake of saying, "No...you're not"
