Toast to Shay

Gabby pov:
I woke up hearing something sizzling, I looked around and didn't see matt, it must be him, I smiled to myself and walked into the kitchen.
Gabby: guess you found your way around my apartment
I smile and hugged him from behind as he flipped the pancakes, I rested my head on his back and hugged him tightly he then turned around and he handed me a coffee he pecked the top of my head with a kiss.
Matt: take a seat, pancakes will be done soon
Gabby: okay, I'll be right back down
I smiled, I went upstairs used the bathroom and splashed cold water on my face. I grabbed my phone from the side table by the bed that has been off these past 3 days, bunch of people have texted me to see if I was okay; Cruz, Herman, Boden. I also got a text from Antonio who heard about shay.
I then saw a message from Herman saying that there was going to be a thing for shay at Molly's tonight, since it's the night before we go back to shift. I looked at the message for a minute, i then replied to it and told Herman that; Matt and I will try and be there. I walk back down stairs and sit at the table where Matt was waiting for me. I sit my phone down on the table.
Gabby: hey, so I just looked at my phone and Herman texted me last night and texted me about the thing for shay at Molly's tonight
Matt looked up at me
Matt: yea, I was going to tell you after breakfast, he came by the other day and told me about it, we don't have to go if you don't want to babe.
Gabby: no, no,
I said cutting my pancakes up and putting syrup on them
Gabby: I think that it'll be okay.. I think we should go for a little bit, for shay.
Matt smiled and held my hand over the table.
Matt: it's the night before we go back on shift I think it'll be nice..
Casey: really? You'll be okay?
I nodded.
Gabby: as long as you're there I think I'll be fine..
I took a bite of the pancakes.
Matt: well I will be there
He smiled at me a reassuring smile.
Gabby: these are some good pancakes.
Matt: only made by the best
Matt winked and I couldn't help but giggle.
Gabby: thank you so much for what you did for me these past couple days..
Matt: you really don't need to thank me gabby.
Gabby: I love you.
He couldn't help but smile, I saw it in his face.
Matt: I love you to gabby.

Matt pov:
Gabby: I love you matt .
I smiled. I couldn't help it. Those three words can never make me not smile. I love this girl more then she probably will ever know. She's my girl.
Matt: I love you to gabby.
We started to finish our pancakes and I grabbed mine and her plate and took them to the sink and rinsed them off.
I heard a phone go off and saw as gabby grabbed her phone and walked into the living room.

Gabby pov:
I answered my phone, it was Antonio, my brother.
Gabby: hey Antonio
Antonio: hey sis what's up?
Gabby: nothing just got done eating breakfast with Matt, you?
Antonio: nothing just got off shift about to go to bed or take a nap -he laughed- but I wanted to check in on you first, how have you been? I've been texting you but you haven't been answering.
Gabby: yea I've had my phone off for the past couple days. I've been fine, Matt has been helping me a lot.

Matt pov:
I was still standing in the kitchen but heard Gabby on the phone with her brother.
"Matt has been helping me a lot"
I smiled, I couldn't help but smile. Knowing that I've been helping her was the best thing I could do.

Gabby pov:
Antonio: that's great gabby. Hey you going to Molly's tonight?
Gabby: yea Matt and I might stop by, you going to be there?
Antonio: yea jay and Erin are coming and I think roman brugess and Adam to.
Gabby: that's great.
Antonio: hope to see you there sis. I'm gonna go get some sleep, love you.
Gabby: love you too Antonio
I hug up the phone. And stared at the phone.
everyone's going to be there I don't know if I want to go now.
Matt walked in the living room, I guess he heard me stop talking.
Matt: hey you okay?
He walked over to me and put a hand on my shoulder.
I nodded.
Gabby: yea..
Matt: what's up?
He always knew when something was wrong, I don't know if that's good or not..
Gabby: everyone's going to be at Molly's tonight, i don't know if I can do it. I thought it was only going to be us and a couple people from the fire house but it's everyone even the police department and--
Matt: woah woah gabby calm down.
He said trying to calm me down, hearing his voice made me feel a little better.
Matt: we don't have to go if you don't want. Or we can go and then leave early if you want? Or go for a couple minutes towards the end? Or go early and leave early. It's up to you, whatever you want to do ill do it with you just calm down and breathe everything will be okay.
I cracked a smile of relief. He understood and that was the best part. I walked closer to matt and warped my arms around him, I let out a deep breath of relief.
Couple hours later my phone rings, it's Herman. I got off the couch where Matt and I were sitting watching a movie. I moved into the kitchen so I didn't disturb Matt as he was still watching the movie.
Gabby; hey Herman
Herman: hey gabby, how are you doing?
Gabby: I'm okay.. You?
Herman: holding in there.....you coming to Molly's today? I could really use some help at the bar.
Gabby: um...-
Herman: i totally understand if you aren't of you can't no pressure..
Gabby: no um yea, i can come down and help for a little bit. After all it is my bar too..
Herman laughed over the phone
Herman: got that right kid.
Gabby: what time you need me there?
Herman: 4 okay?
Gabby: yea sounds good. See you soon
Herman: yep
She hangs up the phone and takes a deep breath. Looks like I'm going tonight.. I walked back out to the living room where Matt was still on the couch watching this movie we put on a couple hours ago. I sit down next to him on the couch.
Gabby: hey Matt, looks like I'm going to Molly's tonight, Herman said he needed some help and was wondering if I could come in.
Matt: you sure you want to?
Gabby: it should be good to get out of the house, talk to some people I guess.
He nodded in agreement: that's true, you've been with me the past couple days. Don't you need a break?
He laughed and I giggled along.
Gabby: never
I leaned in a kissed him on the lips. He kissed me back and I cupped his face as I pulled away gently..
Gabby: are you coming tonight
Matt: of course gabby, you can't get rid of me that easily
I cracked a smile and kissed him again
Gabby: I should probably go get ready... We have to be there in a little over an hour.
Matt nodded in agreement as I stood up.
Matt: you know how long it takes for you to get ready
He laughed, I slapped him playfully on the arm and walked upstairs.
I sat on the end of bed and gave myself a short pep talk before getting ready.
"Gabby you got this, going to hang out with the guys for a little and then you can come home and chill with Matt and then go to bed. It shouldn't be that hard. Do this for shay."
I got up off the bed and threw jeans on and a fancy black tank top my black fancy short boots that had a heel, they made me look taller. I went into the bathroom and curled the ends of my hair an threw some make up on because why not. I grabbed my light leather jacket that had a grey hood and threw that on just Incase.
I turned my lights off and walked downstairs and saw Matt all ready to go.
He was wearing jeans and a light turquoise shirt that had some buttons up by the neck. He's such a guy it's kind of funny.
Matt; ready babe?
Gabby: yep
I grabbed my keys off the table and when we walked outside i locked the door.

Matt pov
Gabby came down the stairs looking beautiful like always, she grabbed her keys off the table and we walked out to my truck. we got in my truck and we drove to Molly's. We got to Molly's and you could tell no one was really here yet besides Herman and Otis bc their cars were the only cars outside.
Gabby and I walked into the bar hand and hand and we saw Otis behind the bar wiping of the counters and Herman organizing the beers.
Herman: hey look who it is, my favorite couple
Herman walked around the bar and came over and gave me a bro hug and hugged gabby.

Gabby pov:
Matt and I walked into the bar hand and hand and Herman walked right up to us and gave me a big Herman hug how could you not love one of those.
Herman: wanna help us gabby?
Gabby: that's why I'm here
I cracked a smile
Herman: wanna help organize the beers and stuff, it's a mess
Gabby; of course!
I looked at Matt gave him a kiss on his cheek and walked over to the bar where Otis greeted me and gave me a hug.
Otis: how ya been?
Gabby: holding in there you?
Otis: same
He smiled and patted my back as he walked into the back supply room.
It started to get later it's like 6 now people started coming into the bar. Firehouse people and some of my brothers cop friends, everyone knew everyone. Everyone greeted everyone. Cruz, Antonio and his wife, mouch and Trudy, Boden and his wife, Erin and jay, Capp and his wife, rice and his wife. I kind of stayed behind the bar out of the way of everyone else. I still didn't know if I was ready for all of this so I was doing my own thing behind the bar. Serving some drinks and talking to Herman who was also behind the bar.
The whole time I was behind the bar i always had an eye on Matt, every time id look at him some calmness would come over me, it's what I needed.
It's 6:45pm and it started getting really packed, I've never seen Molly's like this before, drink orders kept coming in I was getting so overwhelmed, and my anxiety was just rising.i got myself a drink and brought another beer over to where matt was sitting. I think he knew something was up because when I walked over there he warped his arm around me and pulled me closer to him as he was still talking to some guys.
Casey: you good?
Gabby: yea I think so
I took a deep breath.
He rubbed my shoulder as he payed attention to his friends talking.
He knew ways to calm me down even without talking. This is how I knew he was the right guys for me
Herman: I could really use some help over here gabby
He totally said in a funny sarcastic serious kind of way I had to laugh.
Gabby: okay Herman, okay.
I drank the rest of my drink and sat the glass on the table.
I kissed Casey's head and walked back over to the bar.

Casey pov:
I watched as gabby went back over to the bar to help Herman out. The guys went over to the bar to grab more beers and that's when Antonio came up to me, oh god what did i do I thought to myself.
Antonio sat down across the table.
Antonio: hey Matt.
Matt: hey Antonio, what's up!
Antonio: I wanted to say thank you.
Matt: for what?
I was really confused. It didn't click why he was saying thanks to me.
Antonio: you helped my sister get through this. It really does mean a lot to me. And it helps me from stressing out more about her. I really love knowing that she has someone there for her when I can't be...
Matt: I love her so much. She's my girl and I wouldn't want to do anything else but be there for her.
Antonio smiled: It means a lot to hear that. She's so important to me so thank you.
Antonio stood up and we shook hands and he walked back over to the bar where jay and Erin were. I watched gabby as she stood behind the bar helping Herman serve drinks to everyone else. I love this girl so much. I really want her to be a part of my life for a very long time. I think I'm going to propose to her again. Make it the most memorable memory she will always remember.
Rice and Capp walked over to the table I was sitting at and knocked me back into reality.
Matt: hey what's up guys?
Rice: have you talked to or seen severide these past couple days?
Matt: no he's probably just taking time to himself.
Capp: what if he's not okay?
Casey: he's probably fine, he should be back to shift tomorrow. If not then we'll worry than.
They nodded as I stood up.
Matt: guys want another beer? On me?
They both nodded and I walked over to the bar.
Casey: hey beautiful, three beers please.
I said and gabby turned around and smiled. She handed me three beers and leaned over the counter and kissed me quickly on the lips
Herman: hey hey not at work, and not over the bar missy.
Gabby giggled and I couldn't help but laugh.
Gabby: yes boss
She made a sarcastic face and he then laughed.

Gabby pov:
I gave Matt the three beers and watched him as he walked back to the table and sit down with rice and Capp. I moved down the bar where Antonio was sitting and gave him another beer.
Antonio: hey sis
Gabby: hey
I cracked a reassuring smile
Antonio: you good?
Gabby: yea I'm fine, what were you and Matt talking about before?
Antonio: nothing just some guy talk
He laughed, I knew he wouldn't want to tell me but it was worth a shot
Herman handed me a beer and got everyone's attention over towards him. He held his glass up and said a couple words.
Herman: can I get everyone's attention please, okay so as you all know we lost a very close friend, a couple days ago to a very unexpected incident! I just wanted to say that shay was one of the best people we knew, she was such a great person and didn't deserve what happened to her.
He looked over at me standing right next to him and warped his arm around the back of my neck and pulled me into his embrace.
Herman: she was the light and heart in this firehouse and she is going to be missed so much....
He held up his beer
Herman: TO SHAY.
Everyone lifted their beers up: TO SHAY!!
Everyone took a sip and focused back on their own conversations. Herman looked over at me and pulled me into a big hug.
Gabby; thanks for doing this Herman.
Herman: of course.
He smiled and rubbed my shoulder as he got back to work.
It was getting later, around 10ish and people were leaving. Antonio and his wife left, jay and Erin, Adam and Kim. Basically the only people left was firehouse 51.
Rice: I think I'm going to hit it, got a long shift ahead of us tomorrow and I need to get this one home.
Mouch: I think so too.
Herman: okay see you guys tomorrow.
Rice and mouch left with their ladies.
More people started leaving.
As soon as people started leaving, Herman and I were cleaning up. The only people left were Herman, Matt, Otis, mills, Boden and Cruz.
Some guy walked into a bar and drew everyone who was still at the bars attention to him.
Herman: hey pal, we're closing up
He started shaking his head.
?: no no you're not closing...
