Gabby pov:
I wake up to my phone alarm going off. It's 6:30, wow i do not miss waking up this early I said to myself. I flip the covers over me and see matt still sleeping I smiled to myself and covered him up and grabbed a towel and cloths and hopped in the shower.
I showered quickly and and got out for dressed and walked back into my room, Matt wasn't there, but I smelt pancakes and bacon.
I smiled to myself, put my shoes on and walked downstairs to see matt cooking again.
I smiled
Gabby: good morning
I filled my cup with coffee
Matt smiled
Gabby: smells good
Matt: no duh
He giggled
I laughed
Matt: here
Hands her a plate with pancakes and bacon
Gabby: just finding your way around my place i see
I say messing with him, he smiled and sat next to me with his plate of food. I leaned in a kissed him and then took a sip of my coffee.
Matt: ready for shift today?
Gabby: yea I guess so
Matt: it'll be okay, I promise you
I smiled and finished my breakfast and Matt finished to. We had to get going or we would be late for shift.
We hopped in matts car and drove to the fire house.
We arrived to the fire house to see Otis and Cruz just walking in. I started to unbuckle my seat belt and got out of the car, I walked around to matts side of the truck and we started walking in together. I  then froze.
Matt: you okay?
Gabby: yea I think it left something in your truck, I'm gonna go get it I'll be right in
Matt: want me to go with you?
Gabby: no go inside change out and I'll be in, in a sec.
Matt nodded and walked into the fire house.
I don't think I can do this. It's not going to be the same, and me with change just doesn't work good. I don't want to go in there and shay not be there, that will make everything so real, I don't want it to be real. I stood by Matts truck for a couple minutes trying not to cry and saw Herman start walking up, I guess he saw me because he stopped.
Herman: hey dawson, you okay?
Gabby: yea I'm good
Tried to show a reassuring smile, as he walked over to my side
Herman: gabby...
Gabby: Herman im fine
Herman: then come inside with me
Gabby: I'll be in, in a second..
Herman: gabby, hey listen to me. It's okay, it'll all be okay. It will be hard at first readjusting but you will eventually figure out how to do it without sha-
Gabby: I don't want to learn how to do it without shay, she was my best friend Herman..
Herman: I know that, and I know this is so incredibly hard for you. But once you start getting used to it you'll eventually start figuring out that shay is here with you no matter what and I can promise you.
He put one hand on my shoulder and gave me a sincere look as he then walked off.
It took me a couple more minutes after Herman left to get myself together to go into the firehouse. I walked closer an saw the ambo parked in its spot, I couldn't go near it yet, I walked around the trucks on the main floor and into the house. I walked to the locker room so I could change into my work cloths and put my bag away.
I saw mills in there.
Mills: hey, I didn't get to talk to you that much at Molly's last night but I just want you to know im here for you okay?
Gabby; thank you
We hugged each other and he walked out. Connie(she's bodens assistant) then walked into the locker room.
Connie: hey gabby, chief is looking for you and Matt.
I nodded
Gabby; okay be right there
I fixed myself and walked to his office.
Boden: hey dawson, Matt. Take a seat
He shut the door behind us as we walked in and took a seat.
Boden: Okay so Dawson, I know you have qualified and are now an official fire fighter and we would absolutely love to help you make the transition into candidate but I'm going to ask you if you could, could you please please stay on ambo 61 until I can find two new people for the job?
I nodded
Dawson: yea chief, that won't be a problem..
Boden: -he nodded- thank you dawson, I got mills to cover a couple shifts on ambo with you. I am trying my hardest to find replacements and as soon as I do, we can get you on truck!
Dawson: no problem chief
I stood up with Matt and we started walking out.
Boden: Casey can I have a second
Matt: of course chief
He looked at me as he walked back into the office and shut the door

Matt pov:
Boden: how is she?
Matt: holding in there..
Boden: have you talked or seen severide at all these past couple days?
Matt: I haven't, the squad guys are getting really worried about him too.
Boden: to be honest I am to.. Do you have any idea where he Could be?
Matt; i do actually. after shift, I'm gonna go check some places out. Try and find him.
Boden: thank you.
They both stood up and shook eachother hands. I walked out of his office and into the kitchen area.
Of course the first thing that happened was squad saw and but before they could say anything Boden called everyone into the meeting room.
Boden: alright guys take a seat, couple of announcements and then we'll be on our way. First off, Severide is not coming in today, so squad will be a man short and I'll be acting as leutenit today as needed. Second of all, I have talked to both dawson and mills, they have both agreed to be on ambo 61 until I can find two replacements for ambo and get mills back on truck and dawson to as candidate.. So with that news, truck is going to be short a guy also. There is going to be a ceremony in a week or two for shay, still figuring out the details, I will let you all know them when I get them. And lastly, I know this is all going to be hard day, a hard shift for you guys but I want you all to be there for eachother, help eachother, talk to eachother. I don't want anyone of you going through any of this alone alright. shay was a very important member of this fire house, she will not be forgotten. So on that note, Let's go out and save some life's today!
Boden cracked a smiled.
I looked over at gabby sitting down at a table, she had her hands over her face and once Boden said that the meeting was dismissed i saw her walk off so fast,  before I could get to her, then the squad guys stopped me.
Capp: so severide, he's not here. I'm worried Casey.
Cruz: I am to.
Matt: guys I'm going to deal with it after shift okay?
Rice: what do you mean?
Matt: I'm going to find severide when shift is over. I'll bring him back, It's going to be okay, I'm on it.
I patted them on the shoulder, and walked off to find gabby..

Gabby pov:
I walked out of the meeting room so quickly, I needed to get out. So much stuff was going through my head and I didn't want to talk to anyone.
I walked out the apparatus floor where no one was.
I walked over to the rig. I put my hand on the door and all the memories of shay and I on ambo came flooding back.
my favorite memories were the ones we had in the ambo, this isn't going to be the same without shay. it's really not.
I felt a hand on my shoulder, I turned around with tears in my eyes, it was Matt.
Matt: hey you okay?
Dawson: yea I'm good..
He looked at me with concern.
Casey; gabby-

AMBO 61, TRUCK 81, SQUAD 3 4 CAR ACCIDENT 10th and hemmington

Matt: we'll talk later
I nodded and he kissed me on the forehead.
I hopped in the ambo and mills hopped on the passenger seat. It was a quiet ride to the accident. we got there right when truck was pulling people out of the cars. It was a quick one. We got back to the fire house. All I wanted to do was be alone and not have to talk to anyone, I knew Matt wanted to talk tho. He found me as I was cleaning out the rigg. He saw I was frustrated and angry.
Matt: gabby, talk to me.
I saw him standing in the entrance way of the ambo
I shook my head
Gabby: I'm fine.
Matt: no you're not fine, please talk to me..
Gabby: Matt, I am fine okay.
AMBO 61, & TRUCK 81 for assistance
MAN DOWN ON THE CORNER OF WELLINGTON AND 6TH
We got there and we saw a group of people surrounding a guy laying on the ground.
Mills: okay guys let us through give us some room
Otis: you heard him, Give the paramedics some room
Herman and Otis started to get the group of people to back up, Casey helped out.
Gabby: I got a weak pulse,
i cut his shirt off and saw loads of bags of drugs in him.
Gabby: woah
Herman: oh my god 
I looked up at Herman then over at mills
Mills: come on man.
I grabbed my stephascope and listened to his breathing
Gabby: his breaths are really shallow and slow, grab the naloxone.
Mills hands me the naloxone
Gabby: naloxone is in.. We need to hook him up to the IV and then get him on a back board. We need to get-
?: you're not taking him anywhere
I turned around I saw it was a black guy who had a gun pointed to my head
Gabby: woah woah
I put my hands up and everyone started to turn around
Mills: HEY MAN
Gabby: we need to get him to the hospital or he is going to die..
Matt: HEY PUT THE GUN DOWN
Matt started walking closer and he pointed the gun at him
?: not until she hands me the drugs and I'll let you all go
Matt into his radio: we need immediate police man power at the corner of Wellington and 6th
The patient started seizing
Mills: we're losing him
I give him another round of naloxone to slow the the seizing and checked his breaths.
Gabby: we got to go now guys.
he aimed the gun at me again getting angry
I blocked the patient
Dawson: come on man.
?: YOU ARENT GOING ANYWHERE UNTIL I GET THE DRUGS.
I need to get this guy to the hospital or he will die. We don't need anyone else dying on us.
Matt in the radio- where is back up-
?: SHUT UP.
He pointed the gun at Matt I stood up slowly and everyone looked at me and the guy with the gun looked at me and pointed the gun at me.
?: GET BACK ON THE GROUND.
Gabby: I can't do that, I'm putting this guy in the ambulance and we are taking him to the hospital.
?: nO YOU ARE NOT
I heard him pull the load button back, all he had to do was pull the trigger. I'd be gone. I wouldn't have to feel what I feel now, the lose of losing my best friend. I wouldn't have to feel that anymore. I wouldn't care if he'd pull the trigger. I closed my eyes and blinked quickly
I stood up and faced him.
Gabby; You really want to kill somebody??? WELL THEN GO AHEAD. SHOOT ME! You're not getting to him -I pointed to the victim- so You want to kill somebody that bad then SHOOT ME. Go ahead do it.
I looked at him, i held my arms out, I felt everyone staring at me
Gabby: shoot me.
I looked him in the eyes and he started to lower the gun.
Gabby: see you're not going to do it. You're a coward. Now Let us just take him to the ambo.
?: YOURE NOT GOING ANYWHERE
He grabbed me and held me in a choke hold. Everyone started freaking out
?: anyone moves she dies
I tried to squirm out of his arms.
Matt: hey hey calm down, let her go.
He held the gun to my head.
?: give ME THE DAMN DRUGS.
I heard the cop sirens in the background and the cops started getting closer
Cops: PUT TJE GUN DOWN AND LET HER GO.
The cops nodded at me and I elbowed the guy in the stomach, he hunched over and then I kneed him in the face that made him drop the gun and fall to the ground on his back. I picked up the gun handed it to the cops
I kneeled down on the ground to where the victim was Mouch patted my back then Herman did.
Mouch: wow nice job dawson
Herman: that's our girl
Casey cracked a smile, I saw it out the corner of my eye.
Gabby: we need to get him to Chicago med now.
The guys lifted the backboard and got him in the ambo, I hopped in the back of the rigg and threw the keys to mills
Dawson: drive now!!
Mills ran up to the front of the ambo
Matt; you good?
Gabby:yea, I'm fine
Matt: okay, see you back at the house
Matt shut the doors and mills drove to chicago med. We got him to med and filled out the papers. We hopped back in the rig i let mills drive again and we headed back to the firehouse.
Mills: hey dawson, you good?
Gabby: yea, I'm good.
Mills: you did a really good back there.
Gabby: thanks
I cracked a smile and looked down. We got back to the firehouse, all the guys were doing inventory on the trucks.
Everyone started clapping
Herman: hey look who it is our little ass kicker
I cracked a smile and looked at Matt who was lining the hose with Otis
Herman: you did really good kiddo
Gabby: thanks Herman
I gave him a slight hug and walked into the house. I felt someone following me. I turned around, it was Matt
Matt: gabby?
Gabby: before you ask, I am fine Matt....
