"Viper, what do you mean we're being hunted?" I asked her. She stared forward. "Viper." I repeated. She looked over at me and huffed.
"Fine. A demon. Is that what you wanna hear?" She asked raising her voice. "A demon.." She repeated, lowering her voice. I stared for a second, shocked at the amount of anger she showed.
"We've been chased by a demon before, why do we have to run like a bat out of Hell now?" I asked.
"It's not just a regular demon," she said.
"Okay, then what is it?" I asked.
"Look I don't think-"
"I'm not asking you what you think. What is it?" I interrupted her harshly.
"We've never been chased by the devil himself now have we!" She yelled back. My heart dropped. Flashbacks of our mothers death played like a broken record in my head.
"You mean.." I went to say.
"Yes." She replied. I looked forward, breaking eye contact with my sister as I focused on the cold concrete below our moving vehicle. The rest of the ride was pretty silent. Viper turned her music down, and stopped singing. I laid my head up against the cold window as I looked outside. The clock on the dash said 2:30 am. We'd been driving in near silence for almost 5 hours.
"Vi?" I looked over at her as I said her name. Her hands held tight to the steering wheel, her eyes showed sleepiness, her cheeks a dark pink like usual.
"Yeah?" She questioned, still looking at the road.
"What else did that book say?" I asked her. She looked down at the speedometer, and back to the road.
"Just that." She replied. Something felt odd. Like there was something she wasn't telling me. I ignored my anxiety and put my head to the window again. There was no traffic, no noise, nothing but us and the open road. I slowly let my eyes close as I drifted off to sleep.
Viper's POV:
"Harley, wake up." I stated, smacking my sister in the arm. She slowly opened her eyes and sat up, looking around.
"Where are we?" She asked.
"Nebraska." I stated.
"Nebraska?" She questioned confused.
"Mhm." I said. Walking to the trunk of the car and pulling her bag out, tossing it on the ground. I then picked my bag up, shut the trunk, and locked my car. She sleepily walked to her bag and picked it up, following me to the hotel entrance.
"Hello ladies! What can I do for you?" A short lady with dark hair and cold eyes said to us.
"A room for two please," I stated, looking around the hotel as the lady walked to a back room. "what a luxury place." I scoffed.
"*coughs* Well here you go," the lady appeared in front of me again. "room 135 third door on the right." She smiled.
"Thank you." I replied, taking the room key and walking away.
"That's weird." I heard Harley say behind me.
"What is?" I asked, putting the key in the door.
"She went to a backroom to get that key, but I never saw her walk back out. She just kind of appeared." She said.
"Wow! I bet it's some kinda wizard portal!!" I shouted with fake excitement. Harley rolled her eyes in response. I unlocked the door and opened it, getting a huge whiff of old hotel room stench.
"Welcome home." I said, coughing from the dust that filled the air. Harley dropped her bag and started looking around.
"What now?" She asked after a while.
"Now we wait." I said, crossing my arms and laying them behind my head as I sank into the dusty hotel bed. My jean jacket, flannel, and black t-shirt were enough layers to keep the germs off I figured. I kicked my combat boots off and messed with a hole in my jeans. Harley was wearing her black converse, holy jeans, a white t-shirt, black leather jacket and a blue flannel tied around her waist. We were a couple of homely looking folks, that's for sure. I looked around the room until something caught my eye. On the ceiling it looked like there were carvings in it. I stood up on my bed to get a closer look. I saw writing but couldn't quite make it out.
"Nosey aren't we?" I heard a voice say. I guess it scared me pretty bad considering I fell off the bed. I looked up to see the small lady standing in the doorway. Harley was gone.
"There was, on the ceiling, it had-"
"Now dear, I think you need some rest." The lady interrupted me.
"Harley?" I said patiently, hoping she'd hear me. A couple of seconds went by and I said it a little louder, still no response. "Harley!!" I yelled, loud enough to make the windows shake. I heard fast footsteps coming down the hall. I let out a sigh of relief. Harley ran around the corner and into the room.
"I should get going," The lady said, rubbing her hands together. "Just scream if you need anything." She said, with a devilish look in her eyes. I just stared at her, almost looking through her. She folded her hands behind her as she exited the room. Harley stood silent against the door as she passed.
"What the hell was that about?" She questioned, throwing me a bottle of water.
"We gotta get the hell out of here." I said, frantically packing my cloths.
"Wait why?" Harley said confused as she watched me.
"That woman. She's not huma-"
"It's not nice to talk about people young lady." A voice cut me off. It sounded like nails across a chalkboard. I looked over to see the lady standing there again. Yet this time she seemed different. Older. Her eyes had bags beneath them, her chin seemed longer, uglier. Her eyes were cold and empty. I stared at her. Fumbling for words.
"Get out." I spoke to her harshly.
"Or else?" She questioned. Her face bent and moved, changing shape and dimension into something different. Something evil. I started walking towards her.
"Stop right there." She spoke loudly. My body froze. Not by choice. Like something was holding me. I looked over at Harley who was standing at the end of the bed.
"Let me go you bitch." I spat. Anger boiling under my skin.
"Hey, that's not nice." She spoke, before flashing a wicked smile.
"Fuck you." I shouted, spitting at her feet.
"Oh you shouldn't have done that." She smile devilishly. I heard a choking noise behind me. I look back to see Harley being lifted off the ground. She grabbed her neck as she gasped for air.
"Let her go!" I yelled.
"Oh dear you see, for me to do that you have to have something I want," she said wickedly. "and it turns out you don't." She smirked. Harley's gasps got shorter and more needy. I started to slowly speak in tongues. Hoping that if she was a demon I could exercise that bitch before she killed Harley. She woman's eyes began to twitch. Her face growing red with pain. I started talking louder in tongues. She looked down, steam coming off of her face. As she looked back up I noticed her eyes were solid black. I started stating a prayer louder and louder, nearly screaming. All of the sudden an enormous burst of light came into the room, the woman screamed in pain as a huge cloud of black smoke erupted from her mouth. I shielded my eyes from the bright light as I heard a thump behind me. I turned to see Harley on the floor.
"Shit." I mumbled. I rushed to her side to help her up.
"What the fuck just happened?" She asked.
"We just ran into Lucifer." I stated lowly.
