"So what are we gonna do with her?" Stone asked, looking me up and down with surprise.
"Nothing," Galahad replied, looking at him with an indignant authority that him seemed to calm over. Galahad paced over to the globe set up next to a pair of large ornately decorated doors and spun it. I watched, wide eyed as the doors glowed brightly, then returned to their normal state. The librarians and their guardian looked at Galahad with a sort of unnamed dread and astonishment.
"Jenkins, she broke in to the Library," Eve insisted again. None of the Librarians moved. They all turned to stare at the Guardian. "Eve, she said she is being followed by the Serpent Brotherhood, and Mr Jenkins seems to believe her," said Cassandra, who gave me a small smile. Galahad coughed, getting everyone's attention.
"The question you should be asking, Guardian," he said, emphasizing the Colonel's title, "Is where have i taken you to all of a sudden to use the back door?" he said, lifting a thick eyebrow as the others stared confusedly. Eve glared from me to Galahad to the back door, then straightened up her blazer and walked towards the door.
Galahad graciously opened the door for her, and the Librarians quickly filed behind her, each one giving a smile and a wave to me as the walked out of the Annex and into somewhere else in America. "Galahad, what has happened to this place? I don't remember it being so-," i said, looking for words.
"So 'homely'?" He said, the corner of his mouth lifting slightly.
"Yes, that's it," I said, "homely. It's as if the Guardian is the mother, and the librarians are her children or younger siblings. Ezekiel is like the younger brother, always getting into trouble. But it's as if the Colonel only has a little power while someone is away. Who's missing?" I asked, looking inquiringly at my old friend.
"In 'family' terms, the father is missing. Flynn Carson, the major Librarian, is on a quest. We don't know when he'll be back. Who am i in the family then?" He replied, looking at me thoughtfully. It had been so long since i'd seen that friendly face. "Oh Galahad," I said, "you're who you've always been. You're the crazy old uncle who everyone looks up to, even though you're a bit grumpy," i smiled, giving him a peck on the cheek before following the Librarians through the door.
