~Chapter 6~
We’ve been training for months now. In fact, right now we were all breathing hard-even me-from training all day. We were slumped on the ground, huffing and puffing.
“Hey, guys?” I looked over at Kurenai as she looked towards the sky. My gaze snapped around, sniffing as well and I caught sight of a bird. Looks like a messenger one….
“I gotta go to a meeting. Go rest up, training’s over for today.” We all nodded and I sniffed again, catching wind of….bloody sand. Gaara! I remember him! What part of this is….oh! It’s when Konohamaru slams into Kankuro!
Oh wait. Shit! I wanna see that!
I nodded to my teammates, saying I’ll meet them over at the BBQ place but I had to take care of something first. They all nodded and I jumped into the trees, heading towards the scent.
“Kankuro! Don’t!” I heard Gaara snap and I landed on a branch above where I saw Sasuke and Gaara. Looks like Sasuke didn’t detect him. Or me for that matter.
I didn’t go to the trouble of masking my scent or chakra and sat cross-legged with my elbows on my knees and my chin in my palms. I knew Gaara sensed me the second I landed. Sasuke, though, did not. I had my chakra automatically masked without trying. If I did try I could go with the amount of chakra an ant has. Right now I had one of a small dog, cat or bird since I was in a tree right now.
“You’re a disgrace to our entire village.” Gaara continued, still standing upside down on the tree branch as he talked to Kankuro. Him, Sakura, Naruto, Konohamaru and his two friends, Gaara, Sasuke and Temari….some gathering.
“G-Gaara….” Kankuro stuttered nervously.
“It annoys me that you’d lose control in a quarrel with children! Have you forgotten why we came here?” Gaara asked coldly in a flat voice.
“But Gaara….they started it. The little one slammed me!”
“Shut up….or I’ll kill you.” Oh. Such a nice thing to say to your sibling. I mused as Kankuro shivered at Gaara’s cold stare.
“You’re right. I was out of line.” Kankuro stated.
“We’re sorry….okay Gaara? Really, really sorry!” Temari reasoned.
“Sorry about my friends.” Gaara said to Sasuke and glanced up at me before disappearing and appearing between Temari and Kankuro.
“I know we’re a little early….but we didn’t come here to play around.” Gaara said.
“I swear it won’t happen again.” Kankuro stated.
“Let’s go.” Gaara ordered, only to be stopped by Sakura calling for them to wait.
“Yes?” Gaara questioned.
“According to your headbands, you three come from the Village Hidden in the Sand. Your country is one of Konoha’s allies….but according to our treaty; your ninja are not permitted to cross the border without authorization. State your business! We can’t just let you go your merry way.” Oh Sakura, you fool.
Temari explained. “Ever heard of the old saying about it being darkest at the base of the brightest lighthouse? Weren’t you informed? Ta-da! My travel papers! As you guessed, we’re junior-level ninja from the Hidden Sand Village. We’re here to take the Chunin Selection Exam.”
“….what’s the Chunin Selection Exam?” Naruto questioned and I zoned out as Temari explained.
“Hey! You there! What’s your name?” I came back to the present, stopping my petting of Cheisu to see Sasuke pop down in front of Sakura.
