Life had been better in the Glade since Thomas arrived, you felt happier. You were still incredibly quiet and most people over looked you, but Thomas made you smile and it's why you liked making him smile too.
You were minding your own business on the edge of the Glade by the Dead Heads trying to find the perfect flower. You liked giving Thomas flowers they made him smile and you liked seeing him smile. You were doing no harm and a few of the Gladers who passed you like Newt smiled at your antics knowing exactly what you were doing as it was nearly time for Thomas to return to the Glade from his run. It was of course probably incredibly predictable that Gally would find his way out of the wood work to come bother and bully you as soon as you found the perfect flower.
You held it tightly in your fingers, but not tight enough to crush it as Gally stormed towards you. Your shoulders tensed and you contemplated running for a moment, but that had never worked before. So you stayed put and kept quiet, glancing from the ground up to him and hoping he wasn't going to be too mean today.
"That flower for your little boyfriend, Shank?" You neither said yes or said no, you stood there trembling, hands wrapped around the stem wishing he'd have picked on something other than the innocent little flower in your hand. Halfway across the Glade Chuck stood watching Gally stalk towards you and rushed towards Thomas who was jogging through the Maze doors at that very moment.
You let out a gasp as the flower was ripped from your hands and sat in Gally's tight fist, you had no doubt he'd destroy that little flower that you'd spent 20 minutes searching for. He was evil...you were completely prepared to ask whether he was the Anti-Christ because you thought he fit the description.
"What would you do if I crushed it, huh? Would you cry? Would you?" He taunted you and you wanted to be loud for once, you wanted to hurt him...but you couldn't force more than a whimper from your mouth as he tightened his grip around the flower and an evil grin pulled at the corner of his mouth.
He quickly balled the flower up in his hand and threw it to the ground, a ball of mangled petals and broken stems. It's past beauty erased and you couldn't stop the tears from falling, you'd wanted to give that to Thomas so badly...you knew that one would make him smile the most. Gally stood there lording over you and laughing and you didn't notice Thomas storming his way over from all your crying.
"What did you do, Gally?!" You looked up as Thomas shoved the younger boy's shoulders. The two of them had never gotten along, but picking on you and making you cry was the last straw. Thomas was fed up with you getting pushed around by the slinthead.
"All I did was crush a flower, shuckface!" You watched Gally shove Thomas back even harder and felt the tears starting up again. You didn't want Thomas to get into a fight.
"Thomas..." Your whisper went unnoticed at first, they kept yelling and shoving and pushing and you wanted it to stop so bad.
"Thomas!" You never yelled so loudly in your life...or what you could remember of your life and Thomas span around to stare at you asking you gently "What?".
"Let's just go...please" Your voice was quiet again and Thomas nodded his head, sending Gally one last glare before gripping your arm gently and leading you away from the boy to a more secluded part of the Glade.
Thomas sat down against a tree and pulled you into his lap, arms wrapped around you and chin resting against the top of your head. You were comfortable sat like that with Thomas.
"I'm sorry..." You sniffed into his shoulder, face turned to the side and eyes sore from all the crying you had done that day. A lot of crying.
"Why're you sorry, Y/N?" He was confused and mumbled it against the top of your head. As far as Thomas was concerned you hadn't done anything, all you'd done is be in the wrong place at the wrong time...which with Gally was seemingly every place and every time.
"I let him break your flower..."
"Hey...it's Gally's fault not yours...okay? Besides I don't need a flower...i've got my flower right here..." He smiled down at you and you found your face flushing and your heart hammering in your chest before you reached up and placed a gentle kiss against his cheek, looking back at the floor again.
