Aphmau, Katelyn, and Emmalyn all gasped.

They had appeared in a clearing. To the west was a roofed forest, to the east was a birch forest.

Aphmau spread her wings, about to fly off, when she felt Katelyn's hand on her shoulder. "Wait. We should hide our wings." Katelyn said.

"Why?" Aphmau whined, her arms crossed.

"Because mortals are wingless. If we walked past a mortal with our wings out, we'd be spotted in a instant." Emmalyn explained, tucking her wings in. She grabbed a coat and put it on.

Katelyn, however, spread her wings and flew up into the air. After a moment, she came back down. "There's a camp in the roofed forest, and a village not far from here past the birch wood trees."

Emmalyn nodded, then began to help Aphmau tuck her wings in. Katelyn did the same, and together, in their long coats, they set off for the village.

At the village, the trio looked around for mortal clothes so they could blend in. Aphmau, like a small child, ran everywhere, looked at everything, and Katelyn ended up having to tackle her.

Afterwards, the trio made their way through the farmland, enjoying the sights and sounds of the country. An old woman, hobbled over, approached them.

"You young ladies look strong." The woman croaked, pointing a long finger at them.

"Do you need assistance?" Katelyn asked.

The old woman looked towards the village, past the birch wood trees, into the roofed forest. "There's a young man in the forbidden forest. I need you to deliver this to him." The lady handed Katelyn a small parcel, tied with a black cord.

"Look, I don't-" Katelyn began before Aphmau cut her off.

"Of course! We'd be happy to!" Aphmau chirped.

The old woman's brows raised. "Must be a newcomer." She mumbled, turning around and walking back to her farmhouse.

Aphmau bounced once or twice in joy before grabbing the parcel from Katelyn's hands and running off.

Katelyn and Emmalyn ran after Aphmau, who veered off the road into a cornfield. Minutes later, she took to the air, flying really high so as to not be noticed.

Aphmau flew through the air, enthralled to be flying. She flew over to the camp Katelyn had spotted earlier, but looked at her parcel before diving. A single tag, marked with a name, was tied to the cord.

"Aaron." Aphmau read aloud. Then she dived down to an area near the camp. She tucked her wings in before advancing.

It was a pretty simple camp. A tent, a firepit, and a small workplace. A shirtless man in a red hoodie and black jeans was cooking something.

"Aaron?" Aphmau asked, careful to remain in the darkness of the trees.

"That would be me." Aaron said, calmly standing up and staring towards Aphmau.

Aphmau tossed the parcel gently. Aaron opened it carefully. Inside was a single, white rose and a note. Aaron read the note. He turned back towards Aphmau. "Who are you?" He asked.

"Nobody in particular."

"And you're hiding in the trees why?" Aaron took a step forwards. Aphmau fell back.

"No reason." Aphmau said, a nervous tone to her voice. She scrambled back up. Aaron stared at Aphmau, and she knew his eyes were adjusting to the dark. She gulped and began to back away.

Aaron reached forwards, as if to help her up, and Aphmau did something really stupid. One of her wings instinctively flew forwards, batting Aaron's hand away. However, a single feather fell, and Aaron picked it up.

"What the...? What are you?"

Aphmau squeaked, and finally managed to stand up. She backed further into the darkness.

"Are you... an angel?" Aaron asked.

Aphmau paused. "Maybe." She laughed. She began to back away.

"Wait!" Aaron said. Aphmau turned around to face him. "Do you think we could talk again sometime?"

Aphmau nodded, realized he couldn't see, laughed, and said, "Yes." Then she was gone.

Aaron looked back down at the note.

Dear Aaron,

It doesn't matter what you say. You can't fool me. I know that deep down, you're lonely.

I have waited a good many years for a kind, sweet, beautiful girl to come by so I could ask her to give this to you. I'm sure whoever delivers this parcel will turn out to be just who you were looking for.

Now, I know how proud you can be, and how difficult it can be for you to admit you need help.

So I did this without your permission, in the hopes that you will find whatever it is in life you've been searching for. I hope that someday, you can look back at this and laugh. And I hope you can forgive me for getting involved.

Sincerely,
Sonya

Aaron thought about the girl who had ended up delivering the rose. He smiled.
