Click.
Emmalyn slowly lifted her head, looking towards the door, wincing at the light that hit her face. A winged figure, completely shadowed by the light stood in the doorway, just stood there, staring at her.
Click.
The door closed behind them, and then they pulled out a redstone torch, placing it against one of the walls. A dim glow was cast upon the room, allowing Emmalyn to identify the person who was nonchalantly leaning against the bars of her cell.
Garroth.
Demon Garroth.
Emmalyn glared at him. "Why are you here?"
Garroth just stood there, not responding.
Emmalyn stood up, gripping the bars. "Answer me. Why are you here?!"
Garroth smiled. It was a small, weak smile, one of someone who's lost all hope, but still continues to try. "Heh. I... I just came... to talk... to someone who understands... what it's like to hurt the people you care about. To talk to someone... who knows what it's like to understand what they're doing is wrong, but yet they still do it... because... because they're convinced... they're convinced it's the only way. Because they believe... they've passed the point... the point of no... the point of no return. I just... wanted to talk to someone... someone who understands what that's like. We're pretty much in the same boat here, after all."
The whole time Garroth was talking, Emmalyn leaned against her side of the bars, slowly sliding down until she was crouched down on the floor. "And what is that supposed to mean?" she snapped, even though she knew exactly what Garroth was referring to.
"You know exactly what I'm talking about. Ever since you and your allies escaped the Aether after Levin's death, you've been feeding Laurance's underlings all the information you could. Heck, the only reason Laurance even knew your group was in the Nether was because you told him." Garroth said, revealing a super dastardly plot twist that probably isn't going to blow the readers minds (but it's certainly worth a try XD).
"And you're not the only one." Garroth continued. "I've deceived those I care about too. I've even killed. I-" Garroth lifted his claws to his face, and tears slowly began to fall to the floor. "I'd gone too far when I first agreed to Laurance's idea. And now, I can't turn back. I can't rid myself of this guilt."
"Emmalyn... what was it? What was it that compelled you to do it? What compelled you to betray your allies?"
Emmalyn sighed. The truth might as well come out. "For most of Laurance's followers, it was his words, as well as their twisted paths. Most of them were caught in despair when he reached out to them, offering them the chance to rewrite the rules, to change everything. But, that wasn't entirely true for me. Sure, his words sounded nice, but it wasn't what convinced me. When he offered the chance to me, I saw how he truly believed in his words, and it made me realize... just how much he was truly hurting."
"Even villains have a backstory. Even villains hurt deep down." Garroth said."At first, I only joined because I wouldn't be doing anything wrong, just researching everything about the Phoenix Stone. But while I researched that, I learned all I could about demons. I learned everything I possibly could about Laurance and his past. As I began to understand, I began to sympathize with him. I know... I know what it's like to lose someone close to you, and I know what it's like to want to do anything in your power to try and get them back. Although, now that Zane is dead, you know what that's like as well, don't you?"
Garroth mumbled something before turning around and flipping the lever to open Emmalyn's cell.
"What are you doing?"
