"WHERE WERE YOU?!"
"WHAT THE NETHER WERE YOU THINKING?!"
"YOU COULD'VE BEEN HURT!! OR WORSE!!"
"WHAT IF A MORTAL SAW YOU?!"
Zane lifted his head up at the sound. He, Vylad and Michi had been flying for a few days since the bandit escapade. The sun was just barely rising. Who would be up at this hour, let alone yelling loud enough to reduce a mountain to rubble?
Yawning, Zane stood up and stretched his wings (please can we get some fanart?). He looked towards the rising sun. To his left, Vylad and Michi, who were cuddling in their sleep, were beginning to stir.
Zane looked in the general direction of the sound. He spread his wings, and took of. It wouldn't hurt to have at least a little excitement in his day.
As Zane flew, he grabbed the necklace Michi gave him. After the whole bandit episode, Michi had modified the necklace to cast two different illusions-a raven and a mortal man. Zane clicked the raven. Now anyone watching would think he was a raven.
Zane followed the sound and landed in a nearby tree. Clutching the branch, he looked out into the clearing.
Angels! Three rather pretty angels, in the clearing. Two of them, a blonde with short wings and a bluenette with silver wings seemed to be berating another angel, a really short potato, with raven black hair and beautiful, shimmering wings.
Zane almost fell from his tree. He watched the angels for a while, then took to the air and returned to Vylad and Michi.
They stared at Zane when he landed.
"You'll never believe what I saw!" Zane said excitedly.
"What? What did you see? What is it? C'mon, tell us!" Michi said, crowding Zane.
"Angels!" Zane whispered dramatically.
Vylad and Michi stumbled back. "Angels?!"
"Yep." Zane said, completely oblivious to his friends reactions.
Vylad tackled Zane. "They didn't see you, did they?!"
"No." Zane said, pushing Vylad off of him. "C'mon, you don't want to miss it!" Zane hurriedly turned the raven illusion back on and flew off. Vylad followed, disguised as a Peregrine falcon, and Michi followed after Vylad as a flying fox (a flying fox is a species of bat-the largest known species so far, that is).
The three friends settled down in the same tree and watched the angels from the shadows. The blonde appeared to be reading, and the bluenette was still berating the short potato.
"Aphmau, I care about you. It's my duty as your guard and your friend to protect you. When I woke up and you were gone, I was terrified for you." The bluenette finished lecturing.
Aphmau looked down, thinking her wings in. "Katelyn, you don't have to be like that 24/7. Give me some breathing room once in a life."
"You know, you have been smothering her a little lately." The blonde looked up from her book, speaking. "I mean, I'm a little guilty of it, but at least I wasn't doing it in the Aether."
Katelyn glared at the blonde. "Well, I guess you're right, Emmalyn. As usual." Katelyn sighed. "Another snobby suitor showed up, just before we were sent on this... mission."
Emmalyn looked back up from her book. "Where'd they find this one?"
"I'd rather not talk about him." Aphmau said quietly.
Zane leaned in a little closer, attracted to Aphmau's beauty. He didn't love her, but she was pretty, and seemed kind of sweet.
Michi noticed the way Zane looked at Aphmau and fumed. Zane was supposed to look at Michi like that! Not that short potato! It just made Michi... so... ANGRY!
Vylad noticed the steam from Michi's ears and the dark anime fire that blazed in her eyes, and moved to another branch. Zane could deal with that.
Just as Michi was about to tackle Zane, the three angels flew off and Zane followed. Michi crashed into the trunk and got up, following Vylad and Zane.
The angels landed in another clearing, close to a village. They put on long coats to hide their wings before going into town.
Michi, who still had steaming ears, fiery eyes and now a nice red tone, was just about to pounce on Aphmau, but Vylad held her back. Michi kicked and squealed, but by the time she was done, Zane had already switched to a human illusion and walked into town.
Zane lost track of the angels, but his sensitive demon nose sensed something much better. Zane followed the delicious aroma to one of the houses, where a tray of small, colorful treats sat on the windowsill.
Zane ducked behind a bush as a pink-haired Meif'wa came up to the window, and set down another tray. A bell sounded at the other side of the house. "Kawaii-Chan just needs to let the cupcakes cool!" The Meif'wa said.
After Kawaii-Chan left the windowsill, Zane crept up close and grabbed a cupcake.
It was delicious! As Zane scarfed down another, then some more, he knew he would always remember his first cupcake.
