Zane stood there, facing the throne. He waited.

Seconds later, a shimmery being appeared.

Irene was beautiful. Long, raven-black hair flowed down over her shoulders and wings, and two silver horns peeked out from underneath. A long, violet and pink dress, complete with golden ribbon, rested upon her shimmering figure.

Zane trembled. He tried, awkwardly, to bow, but in his haste, nearly fell over.

Irene laughed a small giggle. She walked over to Zane, who couldn't stop trembling, and hugged him, her arms wrapped around Zane as if he was most precious (first person to show me fanart gets cookie).

"Prince Zane Ro'Meave." Irene said, staring him down. "It's a joy to meet you. Your father's spirit and I have been in contact until just recently. There's something he wanted-no, needed-to tell you, but alas, he never got the chance."

"With all due respect, M'lady, how is it possible for you to communicate with the Demon King's spirit, when there are several realm barriers separating you?" Zane asked, bowing slightly, and trembling greatly.

Irene smiled, and said, "The bonds we shared before the realm barrier was created cannot be broken nor blocked by mere diamonds. If friendship is magic, then imagine how powerful true love must be."

Zane was a little taken aback. "I'm sorry, M'lady, but I don't understand. I thought that the realm barrier always existed." He tried his best not to tuck his tail or wings in, keeping them outwards in respect.

"The realm barrier was created to separate what must be unified." Irene spat, making a face. "It was, and still is, a very crappy idea."

"Oh." Zane looked at Irene, who, for just one moment, allowed her emotions to get the best of her.

"But not even diamonds nor obsidian last forever. The realm barrier is weakening, and will open fully soon. But that's not what I asked you in here for, is it? Nope. Not at all."

Irene looked at Zane. "I'm not saying you're the 'chosen one' or anything, just that there's something special about you. You see, when the Demon King died, he chose a mortal to inherit his darkness. He gave you some, but only because he wants you to go find that mortal."

"What?" Zane looked at Irene, confuzzled. Irene smiled.

"As a demon spawn of royal blood, you are entitled to a very special gift. You know what demonflame is, right?" Irene stared Zane down, expecting an answer.

"Yes. It is a demon's life-force, where their memories are stored, and if a demon is without their flame then they're dead. Everytime a demon dies, their demonflame returns to the Nexus, where everydemon's memories are stored." Zane said, without hesitation. "But what about demonflame has to do with royal blood?"

Irene smiled, and pulled Zane in close, using some of her magicks to put on a show. Demonflame could be seen leaving dead demons and returning to the Nexus, where it was purged of memories, before returning to another demon spawn.

"As a demon of royal blood, you are entitled to three lives." Irene, now that the illusion was over, sat down on her throne as she begun to explain. "Each time you die, you lose most of your memories, until you can reclaim your lost demonflame. And each time you die, you'll be caught in limbo for a short while before respawning."

Zane nodded. "Is that all?" He asked.

Irene nodded. "Yes, that is all." As Zane opened the door to exit, however, Irene spoke up and said, "Oh, and Zane, I'm proud of the demon you've become." She then shimmered, and disappeared.
