"Run!" Kass yelled again. Simon wrapped an arm around me and drew his double bladed sword, holding it loosely in his hand.
"We're not going down without a fight," Simon insisted. Kass furiously shook her head.
"No! You need to leave. He can drain magic power. He uses it himself. You need to run with Katie. It's her he wants," Kass insisted. The older members of the guild all looked at each other, a feeling of familiarity with the situation coming over them. I looked over to Mama and Papa.
"Take her and go Simon," Erza insisted reequipping into amour. We hesitated and Mama pulled out her keys and a flash of light burst through the room.
"Loke! Get them out of here and keep her safe," Mama ordered as Loke appeared.
"Of course Lucy," Loke said with a bow. He quickly straightened and ran straight for me and Simon.
"Sorry about this Simon, just keep up," Loke apologized before scooping me up bridal style. He took off running and Simon wasted no time following us. My arms instinctively wrapped around Loke's neck to steady myself. Simon and Loke kept pace with each other well as we ran out of the church. Loke didn't hesitate in his direction as he made for the woods and the edge of town. I looked up at Loke's face. He was determined and it was set in a stern expression.
"I'm not going to fail again," he breathed as he glanced down at me. He concentrated on the path in front of him, jumping gracefully over logs and rocks until we were, what he deemed, a far enough distance away. Loke slowed and set me down carefully. Simon was quick to wrap an arm around my waist and pull me into him. He took deep breaths and rested his forehead on my shoulder. I felt his body move as he tried to steady his breathing.
"Loke, what did you mean by 'fail again'?" I asked. Loke smiled sadly and placed a hand on my head, ruffling my hair slightly.
"Years ago, I was tasked with keeping your mom safe while the guild fought off Phantom Lord and I failed. They caught her. I'm not about to let Akio get you," Loke explained. I smiled up at him.
"I'm strong. I can take care of myself," I asserted. Simon shook his head slightly, it still resting on my shoulder.
"You need our help Kk. Don't try and fight Akio by yourself unless you have to," Simon begged gently. I turned into him and wrapped my arms around his neck.
"But Simon, I can't watch you get hurt for me," I insisted. Simon's head popped up and he grabbed my arms. His eyes bore into mine desperately.
"Katie Fernandes, I promised to love and protect you no matter what today. I am your husband. If you're in danger, our entire family is. Don't you dare forget that you're pregnant with our child," Simon told me. I gently held his face in my hands.
"Simon Fernandes, I promised the same thing today. Maybe it is stupid for me to think that I'll be fine on my own, but if you die, I couldn't live with myself. We have to do this together," I insisted. Simon smiled sweetly at me and I smiled back. I closed my eyes and reached up to gently kiss his lips, when he tensed under my touch. My eyes shot open and I saw Simon's face. He was grimacing in what could only be pain. His eyes stayed open though, as he focused on me.
"Simon!" I yelled as he stumbled into me.
"Katie!" Loki yelled. In a blink he was in front of us, arms spread in a protective stance. I looked down at the rest of Simon's body and noticed black mist collecting around an arrow that was stuck in his ribs. I gently lowered him to the ground so he was laying down.
"Simon! Please stay awake! Don't close your eyes," I begged, looking back at his face. His eyes were still focused on me.
"Katie, there's not much time. He's draining my magic. I'll lose consciousness soon, so listen. You have to pull the arrow out and freeze my wound. Then, you have to leave with Loki and keep running. I know he'll take care of you and the baby. Don't fight Akio by yourself until the baby is born. I'll find you, I love you," Simon told me quickly. His breathing grew heavier and he grabbed my hands tightly.
"I know you'll find us," I told him. I took a deep breath and grabbed the arrow, pulling it out in one swift motion. Simon gasped loudly. I ignored his painful sounds and moved on to freeze his wound. Blood mixed with the ice and stained the clear ice red. Simon's eyes slowly drifted closed peacefully. I kissed his slightly cold lips gently. "I love you too."
Loke firmly grabbed my arm, "We need to leave now Katie. Akio will be here soon."
"I know. I just hate leaving him. But I know he'll find us as soon as he can," I responded standing up. Loke stretched out his arms and I entered them for a hug. Our hug was brief as he promptly picked me up and started running again. I didn't fight the tears that started as I watched Simon drift farther away from me. Somehow I knew we would not be seeing each other for a very long time.
