I ran into the Fairy Tail guild where my mama and papa worked laughing as my Uncle Natsu chased me. "Ice make floor!" I said touching the ground. Uncle Natsu tried, and failed, to stop and went skidding through the guild. I laughed again and saw my mama giggle with me. I skipped over to her, my black haired pigtails bouncing with me. "Are you taking a job today, Mama?" I asked, trying to climb onto one of the tall bar stools. "Not today, Kk. Papa's still out," she answered. Mirajane brought a plate of food and Mama began eating, spooning some to a fussy three year old Kyle.
I stole a piece of toast as my brown eyes scanned the guild restlessly until I found the one I was looking for. I jumped down from the stool and went running over to Wendy. I tackled her in a hug. "Hi Wendy! How was your job?" I asked. "It was fun Katie. I brought you back something," she answered. She pulled a gold, heart shaped locket out of her bag and gave it to me. I studied it carefully. "Is it magic?" I wondered. "The man who gave it to me said it was. He said that if you put a picture of someone you love in it, you'll be able to talk to them where ever they are," Wendy explained. "Cool! I'm going to go show Aunt Levy!" I told her and went running to the library.
"Aunt Levy!" I called. I ran up and down the shelves of books looking for her. I ran into someone and looked up. "Hi Gajeel!" I called up to him. "Levy isn't down here. I've looked," Gajeel told me. I pouted, "Will you help me find her?" Gajeel grinned and nodded. I grabbed his hand and took off running again. He kept up easily. My childish energy and his long legs went a decent pace together. We looked everywhere in the guild, but couldn't find Aunt Levy. We finally gave up and I trudged back to Mama. "You look down, what's wrong?" she asked, picking me up. "I can't find Aunt Levy to show her the present Wendy brought back for me," I complained. Mama smiled and looked at my locket. "That's so pretty dear. Is it magic?" she wondered. I nodded and told her what Wendy told me. "Do you have a picture you want to put in there?" Mama asked. "I want you and Papa in there," I told her. She smiled and nodded. "I'll have to see if I can find a picture of Papa, but I'm sure there's one around somewhere," she promised.
The doors to the guild opened, and Uncle Lyon entered. That could mean only one thing. Lesson time! "Uncle Lyon!" I called happily running to him. He hugged me stiffly. "Hello, Katie. Ready for your lesson today?" Uncle Lyon asked. I nodded and he led me outside where we could practice. Halfway through trying to create an ice wall, I felt a hand boink me on the head, losing my concentration. I looked up to see Uncle Lyon staring down at me. "What was that for?" I demanded. "You aren't using both hands," he replied. "Using both hands is a waste of time. I can make a perfectly good ice wall with just one," I insisted. He stared me down. "Katie, let me tell you a story. I was fighting your Papa once using one hand ice make. My ice wasn't strong enough to withstand his. I lost the battle and nearly lost my life. Two handed ice make isn't just for beginners, it's for the best ice make results," he told me. I glared at him. "Your Papa agrees with me," he sighed. My face lit up and from that moment on, I had no problems with two handed ice make.
After my lesson with Uncle Lyon, I went running back into the guild. Mama was clutching the bar with both hands, as if she would go spiraling off the planet if she let go. Aunt Levy was hold Kyle, tears running down her face. Uncle Natsu and Aunt Erza each had hands on Mama trying to comfort her. A red haired boy with a tattoo on his eye came up to me along with a pink haired girl. Lexi Dragneel and Simon Fernandes. "What's wrong with Mama?" I asked them. "Why don't you ask her yourself ice baby," Lexi snapped at me. "I'm not going to take your crap you little fire shifter!" I snapped back. "You want a piece of this?" she asked taking a fighting stance. "Ice make cage!" I declared and trapped her. I left a fuming Lexi in the ice cage and walked over to Mama.
"Mama? What's wrong?" I asked gently touching her arm. She looked down at me and hugged me tightly. "Mama?" I asked again. I felt something wet land on my shoulder. "Why are you crying Mama?" "Katie, Papa has disappeared," she told me. "What?" I asked. "Papa's gone. He finished his job and was supposed to be on the train home, but never got there. They can't find him anywhere," Mama was being painfully truthful with me. But I'm glad she was. It's better than having false hopes. "Mama, what are we gonna do?" I cried holding onto her. "Uncle Natsu, Aunt Erza, and I are going to see if we can find him. You're going to stay with Aunt Lisanna," she answered. "No way am I staying with Lexi!" I declared. "Kk, please. I need you to be with Kyle and Aunt Lisanna agreed to take care of him," Mama pleaded with me. I glared at the girl trying to melt my ice cage. "Fine," I growled.
They left within an hour, after Uncle Natsu melted Lexi out of the ice cage. After that, Aunt Lisanna took us all back to their house to get us settled. "Lexi, you and Katie will have to share a room," she told us pleasantly while making dinner. "Mom! I can't share a room with her," Lexi protested. I didn't say anything, knowing that Mama would want me to be a good little girl. "Lexi Dragneel! That is no way to talk about a guild member," Aunt Lisanna told her. "But Mom, we're not even guild members yet," Lexi complained. "That is no excuse. You are allowed to join the guild whenever your parents deem you ready," Aunt Lisanna explained. Lexi sighed and glared at me, "Fine."
The next nights were the worst in my life. Even though me and Lexi were forced to share a room, we slept as far away from each other as possible. Aunt Lisanna gave me a sleeping bag on the second night and I slept away from Lexi. A week later, Mama came home. Me and Lexi were having a standoff in the guild when they entered. "Mama!" I called running to her. She had a vacant look in her eyes as she hugged me. Master Gildarts came up to them. "Any luck?" he asked. They all shook their heads. Aunt Erza spoke first. "It appears that he took shelter in a cave during a storm. There were signs of a fire and his clothes. We couldn't find anything else." Master nodded thoughtfully.
A light appeared behind Mama and the familiar form of Loke was there. He gently touched her shoulder and she turned around, hugging him tightly. He hugged Mama back. "Lucy, I'll help you raise your children. Until Gray returns," Loke promised. I didn't understand the look Mama gave him. She just hugged him again. "You understand that I can't love you that way, right?" she asked. Loke nodded. "But your children need a father. Natsu has his own family to take care of and no one else has the time for that kind of commitment," Loke insisted. Mama just looked at me. "And you promise to protect my children, like you have protected me, no matter what?" Loke looked at me as well and nodded. "Then I accept your offer," Mama answered.
Loke bent down to my height. "Katie, I understand that I'll never replace your father and I don't want to. But I hope we can at least be friends." I looked into his eyes and nodded. He gently hugged me. When he finally released me, I looked at Mama and declared, "I want to join the guild." Mama just stared at me, "Katie, we agreed. Not until you're eight." "That was when Papa was still here. He's not anymore and someone has to help you," I insisted. Mama looked like she wanted to argue, but Cana placed a hand on her shoulder. "Let her join Lucy. I joined when I was about her age. She'll learn by taking the little jobs with someone else," Cana persuaded. Mama looked at me and nodded. "Alright then. Go get your mark," she told me.
I ran off to find Mira and tell her I was allowed to join the guild. Mira simply smiled and went to get the magic tattoo stamp. "Where do you want it and what color?" she asked. I pointed to my right calf. "In orange, please," I answered. "Alright then!" Mira sang and placed the tattoo. It didn't hurt at all and my Fairy Tail mark stood out brightly against my skin. I examined it from all possible angles, before finally being satisfied with it. I ran off to show Mama. "Look at my mark Mama," I told her, excited. She looked at it and smiled, "It looks nice sweetie."
I flaunted my mark to Lexi for all it was worth. She grit her teeth, but didn't attack me. So much for a good fight. Uncle Natsu and Aunt Erza were excited for me as well. Simon watched me and I couldn't tell what he was thinking. "Hey, Simon? What's wrong?" I finally confronted him. "Nice mark," he replied. "Simon. What's wrong?" I asked again. "I was just thinking. Why do you always think something is wrong?" Simon answered. "What'cha thinking about?" I wondered. "Do you wanna form a team?" Simon asked. "Why are you thinking about that?" I asked. "Cause Mom's going to let me join the guild soon. And I heard her and some of the other parents talking about how we could recreate the strongest team. We could start with you and me," Simon explained. "You're crazy Simon! I'm not going to join a team with you just so we can relive our parents adventures," I told him. "But Kk..." he began. "Take a jump in the lake," I cut him off and walked away.
"Katie, go pick a job. I'm taking you out," a voice stopped me. I turned around to see Cana. "What?" I asked excited. "Go pick a job," she repeated, taking a drink from her mug. "Awesome!" I shouted and sprinted to the job board. I scanned the jobs and was about to grab a fun one, when a hand grabbed my wrist. "No you don't little lady. You get to choose from these," Mama ordered gesturing to the easy ones on the very bottom. I scowled, but choose the most interesting of them and ran back to Cana. "Alright kiddo. We'll leave tomorrow morning," Cana told me. I could barely contain my excitement for my first job.
