Strangely the house felt kind of homey for a military base. I could tell I wasn't the only person moving in today. Boxes were stacked in a leaning tower in one corner of the small living room.

I had turned around to ask the guy questions only to be greeted by another new face. She was just as tall as the other guy. Her skin was dark and hair was black but her eyes were like a neon green. She was beautiful.

"Hi, you must be Nova" she exclaimed extending her hand towards me. Her face was practically glowing.

"I'm Mell, age twenty-six, and have lived in this house the longest, have any questions ask me"

She had spoken so quickly she made my bad headache worse. But I nodded in agreement. Then I looked back at the man standing beside her, he looked just as pissed off as he did when I met him.

"Oh this is Xander, he's twenty-two and doesn't warm up to people unless he trusts you."

He sighed and flew up a nearby staircase followed by the loud slam of a door. Mell winced.

"Seven others live here if you're lucky you'll meet them all tonight, but I highly doubt it"

She almost sounded saddened by her own words. But she jumped into her bright spark again.

"How about I show you around the house"

Before I knew it she had grabbed my arm and dragged me into another room.

"This is the kitchen, the room we were just in was the living slash gathering room, through that door is the dining room, and upstairs is the bedrooms"

Does she have to talk so quickly? How does she expect me to processes this?

Soon I was lead up the stairs to a long corridor with eight doors. Each labeled with a name tag and a number.

Mell Serano #1
Xander Lane #2
Paige Adams #3
Jake Walter #4
Abby Copper #5
Rosaline Brooks #6
Axle Hart #7
Nova Pierce #8

"Each room has its own bathroom, plus each room is made to meet the needs of each of our personal abilities" Mell giggled

I stood in front of my new bedroom door, scared to see what they had prepared for me inside.

"Why to go through so much trouble?" I asked looking back at Mell. Her happiness almost seemed to drain right out of her body.

"Because we're their best, they need us, the king could care less about the others, to him they're expendable"

Expendable

I scoffed at the word. And turned the strangely heated nob ready to walk into my future of imprisonment.
