The Cabin

Another day passed. I stuck to using the knife Daryl gave me instead of wasting the pistol's ammo. We stuck to the side of the road to stay out of trouble.

"Look!" Jordan gasped.

"What?" I ask.

"A cabin." Elise said.

"Let's just keep going." Ben moaned.

"There could be food and water in there!" Jordan argued.

"And weapons." I added.

"I'll tell you what's in there... Trouble." Ben said.

"Let's take a vote... All in favour of going in?" Said Elise.

Elise, Jordan and I raised our hands.

"Your outvoted." Jordan said to Ben.

"I know." He groaned.

I held out the pistol to Elise.

"I don't know how to use that thing!" Elise pushed it away.

"I know. But if something gets me, your going to have to try to shoot it before it gets me." I say.

She nodded and took the gun. I opened the door and silently snuck in. There stood a single walker. I stuck the knife in the side of it's head and pushed it outside. I didn't want us living with a corpse in the middle of the room. I opened the fridge and found milk that had gone bad and a large chunk of cheese that was still good. It was still a little cold. I broke of a piece and ate it.

"Here. You guys eat that while I look around." I said, giving it to Jordan.

I opened the door to the bathroom. The plumbing didn't work but at least we could still to our business in the tub and toilet. I stepped out and entered the only bedroom the cabin had. The sheets were nice. There were clean clothes that would likely fit us. But the bed was right beside a window which would be dangerous. I moved the bed to the other side of the room and uncovered a trap door.

"Hey, guys! Get in here!" I shout.

"What is it?" Jordan asked as they all entered the bedroom.

"A trap door." I said.

"Should we go in?" Elise wondered.

"Of course." Ben replied.

Ben took the handle and opened the door. Beneath us was a dark void. I could hear moaning from below.

"Any if you got a match or something?" Ben asked.

Jordan reached into her bag and handed Ben a flashlight.

"Be quick. It has low battery." She stated.

Ben nodded and flashed the light into the room below.

"Just three walkers." Ben observed.

I took out the pistol and shot the walkers in the brain to save time. We each climbed down, now standing in a pool of blood, and turned on the lights. On the Walls were more weapons than I had ever seen in my life. I saw pistols, shotguns, rifles, machetes, and a single katana sword. I opened the cupboards and found a seemingly endless supply of ammunition and food. There was a small fridge in the corner which didn't work that was filled with warm water and milk that had unfortunately gone bad.

"My friends... We just hit the jackpot." I said to them.

I looked to Elise and Jordan who just looked at the weapons. Ben was up close, deciding which he should take. He stared at the knives with awe and took one. Then, finally, he took a nice looking pistol.

"Look, now that we have the weapons and the ammo... I think we should each take a knife. Just as a precaution." I announced.

"What about guns?" Ben asked.

"I think we should all get some practice before we start using them for killing walkers." I state.

"Yeah." Elise agreed.

I took a knife with a long, unique blade and handed it to Jordan.

"I don't want to kill them." She shook her head.

"You may have to. If I am pinned to the ground, I'll need you to pierce it's brain." I say to her.

Jordan still shook her head.

"The fate of the group depends on this." I conclude.

Jordan hesitated, but took the knife and put it in her pocket. She smiled at me slightly and looked to Elise who now looked at the knives after hearing my reasons.

"This one may work best for you." I say, pointing to a sharp but simple one.

Elise nodded and took the knife off the rack.

"I don't like what we've become." She said.

"What do you mean?" I ask.

"Look at us... Would this be something we'd do before?" Elise stated.

"I see your point but... We have no choice." I say.

Elise lightly smiled and took a step back from the weapons.

"What about you?" Ben asked me.

I looked at the weapons and chose a nice Revolver and a pocket knife.

"Let's go back up." I say.

We climbed back up and put a dresser over top of the trap door. We put the mattress on the floor so nobody would fall off and covered ourselves with the blanket, despite the warm weather. We blocked the door and happily turned out the light.
