Taevy got up early without any complaints. We said goodbye to our family and then headed out onto the road. I slipped Katy Perry’s Teenage Dream album into the CD player. Taevy and sang along with the first song as it played. After being on the road for an hour, we stopped and had McDonalds for breakfast.
“Do you remember when we were younger and our parents would take us to any McDonalds, the first thing we had to do before we left was to play in the playground?” Taevy asked. She took a bite into her egg and bacon McMuffin.
I smiled, remembering those times. I would often pretend to be a pirate while Taevy would pretend to be a princess. Sometimes I miss those crazy childhood games we used to play.
“Yeah, I miss those days,” I answered.
Taevy smiled. “Maybe we should play on it before we go.”
I stared at her and then looked outside at the playground behind me. Since it was early morning the playground was empty. I turned back to Taevy and returned the smile. “Just like the old days?”
“Just like the old days.”
We quickly finished eating and then went outside, hoping the staff members wouldn’t see us out here. We ignored the sign for the playground rules where it said that you had to be ten years and under to be able to play on the equipment.
“Oh no, pirates have surrounded the castle,” Taevy said. She started climbing a ladder.
“You’re mine now, Princess Taevy,” I said in my best pirate voice. I followed Taevy.
“No! Don’t take me away from this castle. I will get my pet unicorn Pixie on you.”
“No unicorn is going to stop me from taking away the most beautiful princess in this whole kingdom.”
Taevy crawled through the tunnel. I followed her, grabbing her legs. She squealed, lying on her back. I crawled on top of her, interlacing my fingers through hers. I smiled down at her.
“I have captured the princess,” I said. “Are you ready to aboard my ship? I will take you anywhere in the world that you want to visit to.”
“I will only come aboard if you don’t make me walk the plank, and you must allow Pixie to come aboard too. And no, she isn’t walking the plank either.”
“Anything for you, Princess Taevy.”
I leaned down and kissed her softly. I pulled away. Just as I was about to get off her, Taevy grabbed me and flipped me over so she was lying on me. She did it so quickly that I end up banging the back of my head in the tunnel. I didn’t care about the pain at all. All I cared about was Taevy’s beautiful face that looked down at me.
“I’m going to be in charge now,” she said. “And I say you must slide down the slide. If you don’t, my fire breathing dragon will come after you.”
I pretended to be scared. “No, don’t get your fire breathing dragon on me!”
“Can you take me away to Fairyland?”
“I will take you there if you come down the slide with me?”
“Anything for you, Captain Liam.”
Taevy got off me and I crawled out of the tunnel with her behind me. I stood up and looked through the blue wooden telescope they had with no lens on them.
“Oh no!” I said. I looked up at Taevy. “There are crocodiles in the water and they’re surrounding the castle.”
Taevy threw her arms around me. “Oh no! What are we to do, Captain Liam? Don’t let those mean old crocodiles take me away from you.”
