FIVE YEARS LATER

“Slurpee?” I asked Taevy as we walked into 7/11 near our school. We always visit the store after school.

Taevy flashed me an amazing smile. I swear she has the most beautiful smile I have ever seen. It’s more beautiful than any other girls’ I have seen. It always sends my heart racing.

“Yes, please,” she replied. We headed over to the Slurpee machine which contains four flavours – cola, raspberry, lime and bubble gum. Every time we came here we mixed the colours together. “You know what, we should share the Slurpee. We could make it a very special one to celebrate that school is finally over.”

I grabbed a large clear plastic cup and put it under the cola flavour. “So what kind of dress you’re wearing?”

Taevy just smiled at me. “It’s a surprise.”

I added raspberry next. “A surprise, huh? Can you give me a hint to what it might look like?”

Taevy shook her head. “Nope. You have to wait until tonight.”

I added lime to the Slurpee. “But tonight seems so far away.”

She stood behind me and wrapped her arms around my waist, resting her chin on my shoulder. I was about five centimetres taller than her. “The formal is only about three hours away.”

“But I want to see you in the dress now.” I added the final flavour into the cup.

“Hold your horses, Liam.” She slipped a hand under my shirt, rubbing her hand on my stomach. I felt my body shiver as her hand touched my skin. “Trust me. It would be totally worth it if you wait to see me in the dress. I just know you’re going to like it.”

I smiled, grabbing a lid and two straws. “Okay, okay. I will wait for tonight.”

I turned around to face her and she immediately wrapped her arms around my neck and kissed me. I smiled against her lips.

“So what are you wearing to the formal?” Taevy asked me.

I smiled at her. “It’s a surprise.” I walked over to the counter to pay for the drink.

We walked out of the store. I took a sip of the drink. Taevy took a sip of it as well.

“Oh crap, brain freeze!” she said. She put her hands to either side of head, squeezing her eyes shut.

I just laughed at her. “So where to now? Home or to the tree?”

She recovered from her brain freeze. “Let’s go to the tree and stay there for a bit.”

Slipping my hand into Taevy’s, we headed towards the park. It wasn’t very far from here, about a five minute walk.

“So now that school is over, what are we going to do with our lives?” I said. I took a sip of the Slurpee.

“We should travel the world.”

“That would be nice to do. If only we had the money to travel everywhere.”

“True. Well, how about we go on a road trip.”

“That sounds great. Where do you want to go?”

Taevy shrugged her shoulders. “I don’t know. Anywhere sounds good. Somewhere we can afford to travel to.”

“How about we go to the Gold Coast?”

She smiled. “Sounds good. I love the beach.”

“Do you think your parents will allow you to go?” I remember how Taevy missed out on every school trip there was. Her parents never allowed her to go on any of them. I don’t really know why and Taevy never really told me why they would never let her.
