Chapter Nine

Die Hard

Sienna's POV -

Liam glared at me as I picked up my bag from the floor and hung it around my tense shoulders. I felt like my heart was catapulted into my mouth. My breathing was uneven and I had the urge to dig my nails into my palm, sinking into my despair. I knew something was really wrong when I looked over at Liam and stood beside him, and his arm hung idly by his side.

Even though I wasn't desperate for his arm to be around me, it just meant that he was angry at me. I tried to think over my actions and couldn't help but not regret what I had done. I would stop him over and over again. I understood that the girl had been abused and that the bastard had deserved to die, but Liam didn't deserve to end up in prison. With that and his vandalism, I had a sinking feeling in my gut that being around him was downright dangerous.

We walked out of the front doors, Liam storming ahead of me and slamming the door back into my face. I winced at the pain but managed to stay quiet. He was angry and it would be worse to irritate a volcano on the brink of eruption.

I tried to quicken my steps as Liam strode on by me into the parking lot, but with our height difference and his obvious fury quickening his steps, it was difficult for me to catch up to him.

As I walked passed a big group of males, one of them shouted a suggestive comment towards me that I otherwise would have never ignored but for the sake of Liam, I kept walking passed. One of them whistled and called me something petty like a 'fine piece of ass' or something. I rolled my eyes and ignored their banter, gritting my teeth together so I wouldn't have the urge to ensure none of them could have children in the future.

My gaze was focused on the concrete as I counted my steps, hoping that by the time I would have gotten to Liam, he would have at least calmed down a little. I wasn't entirely upset with him because come on; he did just save a girl that was being abused. Any guy that could do that definitely deserved award for bravery.

When I reached the car, I finally gained the courage to look up and instead of seeing an angry Liam, I was met with thin, wispy air.

I frowned and turned around, looking to see if he was behind me.

Same old wispy air.

I could hear a few grunts and shouts and I turned in the other direction and to my horror, Liam was beating up the guys who had made the suggestive comments about me. How had he even heard them? He was walking way ahead of me!

Muttering a few choice of words that my mum would definitely approve of (in hopes of turning me into a real college student, no doubt) I ran towards the group but kept a reasonable distance.

"Liam!" I shouted.

Like in the theatre, there was absolute silence to my cry.

"Liam, listen to me! Stop freaking fighting!" I yelled again.

The guys were a group of six and four were already knocked out on the floor. Well, not completely knocked out but they were lying on the floor and were probably pretending to be injured so they had some pride left in front of their friends. Because if we were all being honest with each other, not one of them would want to get beaten by Liam.

Liam had a fist flying his way and he used his forearm to block it and kneed the guy in gut and gave him a right hook. I winced from the mental pain - mental pain being me imagining how it would feel.

"Liam just stop!" My throat was raspy and I felt like the entire Oceania wouldn't satisfy this mother effing thirst.

Once the guy was knocked down, Liam was met with one last person who stood like a stunned mullet. Liam stayed still and didn't approach him. Finally, some sense knocked into the guy and he just ran away like a little girl, with his arms flailing wildly by his side as he pushed passed a bunch of people to get through the lobby doors of the theatre.

Liam chuckled but it held no humour or lightness that I had seen so much from him today. It was dark and almost villainous.

"Let's go." He muttered.

"The last time you said that, you came out here and beat up a bunch of guys just because they tried hitting on me!" I retorted, not being able to hold my tongue quite yet.

I was a proud anti-violent acts person. And today I was hanging out with the bad boy of Yale campus who was really dangerous.

Peachy!

Even as the sun was coming down, I could see Liam's eyes darken significantly as his face contorted into a livid scowl.

"They hit on you?" He muttered through gritted teeth.

His voice held so much danger there and it scared me a little. Maybe because where I grew up, everything was perfect. I had the perfect town with the said-perfect family and apart from one horrific incident, I was said-fine. But there was something about Liam that held so much danger, that he was metaphorically equipped like an assassin yet there was just this side of him that was... weak.

"Uh t-they kind of um-"

"Sienna! They f*cking hit on you!?"

Why was he even asking me this? Wasn't the reason for him beating up those guys because he heard them catcalling?

"Y-yeah they did. T-they didn't touch me or anything." I cleared up quickly.

It was quite amusing that he and I were having this conversation in the midst of full-grown bodies that were pretending to be knocked out when realistically, they were scared shitless.

"I suggest," He continued through clenched teeth, "We get into the car right now. Before I lose it."

I nodded feverously and practically ran to the car, yanking the handle for the passenger door and jumping into my seat. As soon as I shut the door and locked it, a feeling that I was succumbed to was safety. And all I wanted to do was argue with my conscience about my feelings because there was no way I could feel safe with Liam who had also opened the driver's door and started the car.

However, the car stayed immobile in the parking space and Liam turned his body so he was facing me completely.

"Are you scared?" He asked me with a soft frown.

How Liam managed a frown to be soft was beyond me.

"No." I answered too quickly.

His hardened eyes softened and he lifted his arm, automatically causing me to flinch like it was purely effing instinct.

"You're scared of me?"

I couldn't answer him truthfully because he'd probably take advantage of the fear. Beat up my precious car or something.

"No." I lied.

"Sienna y-"

"I'm not scared. I'm pissed. What the hell is wrong with you Liam? Are you out of your mind? Could you be any denser because I'm seriously curious? You almost killed someone! And don't give me that bullshit about me being dramatic or whatever screwed up ideas you have in your mind because if I hadn't called anyone to come help, you would have killed the guy! You were punching him all over his face and that is really dangerous. I get that you saved that girl but come on! You saved her and I'm really proud of you for doing that but you just screwed up any decent thoughts I could have had about you by beating him up! And if somehow you were able to justify exactly why you did that, there is no explanation that encompasses all the reasons for your sudden brawl out there in the car park! You cannot just walk around and expect to go about life by beating every single freaking person!"

Liam stayed silent when I finished, however his eyes clearly suggested that he wasn't exactly starting to feel bad. Instead he just glared at me like all the hate and rage from prior events were all directed towards me.

"There is an explanation for me beating those guys up. They tried hitting on you." He said simply, with as much monotone as a politician.

"They hadn't even touched me! And you didn't even know they tried to hit on me until after they were all knocked out!"

"I don't give a f*ck, I was angry and I wanted to beat people up." He growled.

"That is not a good enough reason. What about the fact that you almost killed someone and-"

"You know what? Just shut the f*ck up, I don't need to hear any of your dramatics about how I almost killed some f*cking moron that abused a girl. The f*cker deserved to die. I don't even know why I'm explaining myself to you. You out of all people should f*cking know that." He eyed me knowingly.

My heart was once again in my mouth as my rate began to increase dramatically, the nerves kicking in like never before. He couldn't know. There was no way that he could know...

"What's that supposed to mean?" I finally muttered.

I could feel my eyes begin to burn but not from tears, but from pure rage. My cheeks must have been flaming red and I wouldn't be surprised if I lost a tooth from how much I was clenching them.

"Nothing." He replied and then, "f*ck."

"No. No, just stop screwing with me. How the hell do you know so much about me?"

He had to know. But how?

"Nothing."

"No, Liam, just tell me."

"Sienna, just drop it."

"Liam-"

"Sienna, just leave it and-"

"No! F*ck! Oh my God, you made me swear! Oh God!" I was appalled with myself.

Liam began reversing from the driveway, indicating we ended our conversation.

"Don't you dare drive off like that! How do you know so much about me?" I had a burning pain in my throat from how much I had yelled today.

"I don't know anything about you, you're just easy to read." He finally came with after a few minutes.

"That's bullshit and you and I both know it."

"Just shut up."

I wanted to argue but after doing so much yelling in the past hour, I was physically and mentally exhausted. I slumped my head against the window, shutting my brain down and closing my eyes. I didn't want to see Liam or even acknowledge his existence.

I officially hated him more than anything and anyone in the entire world.

Except for one person.

I drifted off throughout the ride back home and I wished I could just press a button to shut down everything and pretend that this day hadn't existed. As soon as I heard the engine turn off, I yanked the handle open and slammed it shut with no word from or towards Liam.

"Sienna, wait!" I heard him call after me but I ignored it, my anger consuming me.

It was the mixture of what had happened in the theatre, the parking lot and the fact that he wouldn't tell me how he knew so much about me that pissed me off. And his overall attitude and approach to life. He and I just didn't mix together well, friendship or not.

I kind of wished Jacob could have somehow stopped me from going out with Liam. But I knew that would have only led to resentment and that wouldn't have ended well.

Ignoring the hatred that was pulling me back to Liam in hopes of beating him up, I ran to my dorm room and slammed the door shut angrily. I went straight to my room and laid on my bed, trying to calm myself down. I needed a stress ball or something.

I grabbed my phone and opted for the next best thing.

"Enna?"

"Hey mum."

"Aren't you supposed to be out with that guy from the restaurant?"

"You make it sound like we were on a date." I grumbled.

I heard her chuckle from the other line and a huge bang, which was followed by multiple swear words.

"Shit! Okay, got it. Hello? Enna are you still there?"

"Yes mum."

"Okay, good. Anyway, have you worked things out with Jacob?"

"No." I answered.

I just felt completely and utterly horrible. I didn't exactly put up a fight, per se, but I pushed for trying to get Jacob on board with the fact that I was going out with Liam and now everything was so screwed up with both guys, I had no idea how I would cope.

But the fact was Liam was some bastard I couldn't even stand to look at. Jacob was my boyfriend. It was painfully obvious that I couldn't care any less about losing Liam's 'friendship'. I hated the guy from day one, anyway. But Jacob was just... Jacob. I had strong feelings for him and he was my boyfriend, it was ridiculous not to presume I could ever let him go.

Just as I was about to text Jacob, I received a message myself.

Ally: Just got into the theatre with Chelse and Jacob. Movie is about two hours so don't annoy us with your incessant texts! That's a joke, chill. Anyway, see you soon. Love you x.

Well... there went my plan on hanging out with them. I felt like I didn't see them anymore because my free time consisted of phone calls to my mum or studying. Whenever I was in the dorms, Ally and Chelse had class or were out doing something I would never do and that was if they didn't drag Jacob along simply because I was busy and he had nothing else better to do.

It was infuriating, really. This was the next chapter in my life and I hated it. I just really, really wanted to be home.

"Hello? Yoohoo? Enna, where'd you disappear off to?"

"Oh, sorry. Still here. What did you say?"

"I said why do you sound so angry?"

So then I delved into today's events, telling her everything bit by bit so I could get her to be on the same level of anger. And maybe then we'd double team on bringing down Liam.

When I was finished, she stayed silent for a while.

"He... he couldn't know about what happened to you, right?" My mum asked, a ton of worry detected in her tone.

"I don't know. It's like he keeps making reference to it but then he tells me he doesn't know anything and when you think about it, how could he know? It's impossible. The only people who know are us. You, me, dad and Alex."

"Are you sure no one saw?"

I felt like throwing up by this conversation. Or hyperventilating. Whichever came first.

"N-no."

"Sorry, I forgot how hard it was for you."

"S'okay." I mumbled, trying to regain my breath back.

"So what are you going to do?"

"Just avoid and ignore."

"Sienna, you live in the same residential college. You can't avoid him."

"But I can ignore him." I jibed back.

There was a sound of agreement made and I felt like I could breathe again.

"What about Jacob? Are you guys in a fight?"

"I'm not sure. I think that I'm ready to accept an argument so we can get it off our chests and reconcile but he seems so... like he seems like he's in denial. He doesn't want to accept that fact that we have a disagreement. Because instead of speaking to me about it, he's avoiding my calls and speaking with me dryly."

"I think he's hurt that you chose Liam over him."

"But he can't see it like that. That's not the case. I would easily, hands down choose Jacob over Liam any day."

"Yes, Enna, but you and I both know that. Following today's events, it seems like Jacob's pretty hurt. I think you might need to explain to him just how much you care about him."

I made a sound of agreement and then a growl at the fact that I was hungry. Dammit. We were supposed to go out to dinner.

"Mum, I'm going to go. I need to eat something."

"Okay, but be careful, you're getting fat."

"Mum!"

She chuckled and I rolled my eyes at her idea of a joke.

"It's a joke, Sienna. It's supposed to make you laugh and feel better, not scold your dearest mother."

"Dearest mother?" I asked incredulously.

"Bitchy, poor-excuse for a mother, is that better?"

"Much." I mocked.

"Enna!"

I laughed at the reversal in our roles and grabbed my bag, slinging it over my shoulder.

"I'm hanging up now." I sang.

"Bye!"

I pressed the 'end call' button on my phone and shoved it into my purse. I grabbed my keys just in case I felt like going off of campus to get food but then I realised I didn't really want to go anywhere alone. Gosh, I needed to make friends. Except, I already had some but they were out because I decided to go out with that bastard.

I opened my door and was shocked when I found a tall figure standing at my door, his hand raised as if he were about to knock.

I gritted my teeth together and drew in a sharp breath.

"What do you want?"

"Liam told me about what happened." Mike answered.

"Of course he did." I narrowed my eyes at him.

I didn't care that he personally hadn't done anything to me but he resembled Liam too much for me to not give the cold shoulder.

"So you aren't going to be his friend?"

I raised my arms in disbelief and a Liam-moment rose as violence consumed me. Not like I actually hurt Mike or anything, I didn't have the guts for that.

I opted for stomping my foot. Yeah, very ballsy.

"What is this, kindergarten? No, I'm not going to be his friend and he clearly doesn't want me to be his!"

"That's not true?"

"Is that what you guys discussed while smashing another car?" I questioned bitchily.

His eyes darkened and I finally noticed the same traits of anger that I was so accustomed to seeing in Liam's eyes in Mike's expression. I was beginning to think that Mike was the good twin while Liam was the evil one.

"Just stop right there. I understand that you perceive what we do as terrible but you can't keep making remarks about that. Especially you."

This time, I did punch him.

I didn't know what exactly came over him and I regretted my actions immediately, but I was sure I did more damage to myself then to anyone else.

I hadn't noticed that my fingers had already scrunched into a fist and after Mike's words; I swung my arm and punched him in the chest. He didn't even flinch.

"Oh My God, I'm so sorry." I blurted out.

His lips rose in amusement and my embarrassment for the punch was swiped away when anger once again washed over me.

"You bastard! Why do you keep making references about me? What are you trying to say?"

"I don't know."

"You don't know?" I asked disbelievingly with raised brows.

He shook his head and kept a solemn expression.

I sighed angrily and shut my eyes tightly, trying to figure out what to say next.

Finally, I decided on the correct words.

"I hate your brother, and I hate you. Since I met you, nothing good has come into my life. I'm fighting with my boyfriend; I haven't spent a day with my friends and going to class keeps becoming less enjoyable. I'm constantly scared, on the verge of an anxiety attack and you and your stupid brother just find amusement in my misery. If you guys know about my life, then fine, you know. Just stop trying to play these God-forsaken mind games because unlike you and your asshole of a brother, I find no amusement. I'm hurt, I'm damaged goods and you probably know that because you most likely know what happened to me back at home. But stop making it into some f*cking game where you find amusement in my misery."

After saying all that, getting it off my chest, I didn't look to see if Mike's expression was solemn, apologetic, or even angry. I didn't care. What was weighing down my mind was 'damn, I just swore again'. Hanging around these guys did not make me into a better person, not the slightest bit.

So what was the point in even acknowledging their existence if they will crush mine? I kept my gaze screwed onto my feet, not wanting to see Mike's expression because I didn't care.

"Soze, that's not the case. Just please try to be patient."

I glared at the floor and clenched my fists. Mike was just as infuriating as his brother!

Until... hang on. I was called Soze.

That wasn't Mike.

I looked up to see Liam standing next to his brother.

"Y-you heard all that?"

Really Sienna? They screw with your life and that's all you have to say?

He replied with a slight nod as he looked down on me.

"Sienna, I've had time to cool off and-"

Wait, why the hell would he need time to cool off? Because he saw a few males whistling at me? It was Jacob's job to defend my honour, not his.

"You're seriously trying to tell me that you needed time to cool off?" I asked incredulously.

"Hey, John McClane didn't have time to cool off and look at what he ended up doing."

I wanted to slap him.

He just mentioned Die Hard...

"John McClane was trying to make amends with his soon to be ex-wife and saved the entire building from terrorists. I don't know what point you're trying to make."

Liam looked over at his brother and smirked.

What was with all the freaking smirking? It exasperated me and by now, I just felt tired.

"My point is-"

"I wasn't giving you an invitation to talk, Liam. Just leave me alone, I don't know why it's so hard. Ignore me in class and when we happen to see each other. That's it, that's all you have to do." By now, my tone sounded pleading but I didn't care, as long as they were out of my life.

"You don't understand, I can't just get out of your life. It's not as simple as that."

"Why? Why isn't it that easy?"

I knew they had made another reference to knowing me somehow in that suspicious, creepy way but I knew better by now that if I asked him about it, that stupid smug smirk will illuminate on his unfortunately-gorgeous face.

"Because you're Sienna. And we're going to leave it at that. We won't bother you anymore." It was Mike who spoke, interrupting Liam from saying whatever it was that he wanted to say.

I stood in my tracks and watched as the brothers walked away from me fast paced.

Why was I even out here?

Right, I was going to go eat.

But I couldn't eat, not anymore. Because before Mike had interrupted his brother, I could have sworn that Liam was about to tell me everything he knew.

And just my luck, he didn't.
