Chapter Four

Silver Linings Playbook

Liam's POV -

"She was pretty freaked out." Mike chuckled as we jumped into my car.

I nodded trying to show a smile to keep a cool exterior. I think it looked more like a grimace but I didn't care anyway, Mike would be able to tell if I was in a shitty mood or not. I put the car on drive and reversed out of the parking lot and on the highway.

"Are you angry at her or him?" Mike asked after a minute of silence.

See, it took nothing for Mike to simply know what I could be frustrated with.

"Him." I shrugged. "He took a while to stand up to for his girlfriend. And he's annoying. He called me a douchebag." I chuckled humourlessly. "Like that's really offensive."

Mike watched me with suspicion and then his features morphed into a knowing smirk.

"Yeah." Mike nodded. "He was annoying."

Although he was actually agreeing with me, his tone contradicted his words. I didn't bother questioning him or denying what really was happening because we both knew it anyway. Perks of being a twin.

"Did you call her?" I asked Mike, changing the subject.

"She knows we come over every Thursday anyway. She's probably expecting us." Mike replied, tapping away at his phone.

I cocked my head towards his and saw he was surfing the net on how to blackmail people.

"What the f*ck are you doing?"

"She won't stay quiet."

"She will stay quiet."

"Did you not see the way she looked at us like we were murderers? She'll tell. That's the type of girl she is. And plus, we've blackmailed before, there's no difference." He shrugged.

"We can't blackmail her." I rolled my eyes at his dramatics.

Blackmail, seriously? All we did was smash a windscreen. Big deal.

"Why not? She looked pretty angry."

"We can't blackmail her." I repeated.

"Because she's one of them?" He suggested.

I only responded with a nod. He shrugged and nodded.

"That makes sense. Okay, we won't blackmail her. But what if she decides to tell the Dean?"

"Then it wouldn't be the worst thing he's heard about us." I shrugged.

He nodded in agreement and went back to tapping on his phone, probably texting someone.

I pulled up in my sister's driveway, cutting the engine and stepping out of the car. Her house was pretty big, but small compared to her husband's family home. The property was a large, two story brick home. The first floor had a terrace that surrounded the perimeter of the house, mirroring the balcony on the top floor. Her home was very Victorian themed on the outside, ultra-modern on the inside.

I opened the front door without a knock and walked towards the lounge room, seeing my sister curled up in her husband's arms on the couch.

"Come on, Rose. One more kid. Please." Her husband, Nate, was practically whining.

She turned around and glared at him.

"You said that two kids ago! You just want to get into my pants."

"Hey, if I want to have sex, I'll get se-"

"Woah, Woah! Announce yourselves before you start talking about that kind of stuff. I don't really want to hear about your sex life, Rose." I grimaced, feigning a shudder as I jumped onto the barcalounger, lifting up my legs straight away.

Rose turned around when she saw Mike and I and blushed, narrowing her eyes at us.

"I didn't say anything! It was Nate!"

"It's okay, Rose. I know I'm addictive; you don't need to deny it." Nate smirked.

I laughed as she had a face of horror as she pushed Nate off of the couch. I laughed as he fell onto the floor, a look of amusement on his face.

"Shut up, you'll wake up the kids." Nate smirked and on cue, I heard a loud cry coming from a bedroom.

Rose narrowed her eyes and kicked Nate in the shin before running off to one of the bedrooms. I had eleven nephews and nieces from Rose and my older brother, Jace. Rose had eight kids and Jace had three, all of them, unfortunately, with our attitudes.

But, they were all the best kids in the World. The eldest were the twin boys of Rose and Nate who were eleven and acted eighteen. They were spitting images of their father, much to the dismay of... the whole world.

Nate jumped onto the couch and started flicking through the channels while Mike texted. I narrowed my eyes and stared at the TV before picking up a pillow and pegging it towards Nate.

"A pillow. Is that what you guys use now?" Nate smirked.

Yeah, Nate sort of knew about our 'bad-boy antics'. He didn't know the extent of what we did; partly because we didn't want to tell him and partly because he didn't want to know in case he accidentally let it slip in front of Rose.

"We used a baseball bat today." Mike smirked.

"No; stop there, I don't want to hear anymore." His smirk fell and was replaced with a hard look.

"You're so whipped." I laughed.

He never, ever tried to show it but everyone knew that Nate was head over heels in love with my sister. He fell for her when they were in senior year and my God, he couldn't have been a bigger asshole to her when they first met.

"I'm not whipped!" He frowned.

"Sure." Mike grinned.

"I'm not whipped!"

"Okay."

"I'm not whipped! Look, I'll prove it." He sat up on the couch and looked at Mike and I with a challenging glance. "Rose! Get here now!"

We both rolled our eyes at his lame attempt at trying to sound manly. Sure, he was a bastard to Rose, but he was still whipped in his own way. A few moments later, we heard light footsteps approaching us and I already knew it was my sister.

She had a bored look on her face, glancing at Nate with a curious frown.

"You called?" She asked dryly, her youngest child in her arms.

She had male twins; triplets - a male and two girls, a boy and another twin girls. We obviously had twins running in our family - considering Mike and I were twins - but when Rose and Nate started popping out kids, we hadn't known that Nate's family had twins running in them too, which ultimately led to all of their kids except for one being a twin or triplet. Poor kids.

Belle was Rose's youngest - two and a half - and she gleamed at me with wide eyes. I stood up off the couch and reached out to her, taking her off of Rose.

"Hey beautiful girl." I mumbled, taking in my niece who looked exactly like her mother.

"She is beautiful, huh." Nate muttered. "Just like her father."

Everyone rolled their eyes - Mike throwing a pillow towards Nate.

"Shut up, Sanders. All the girls look like my sister."

Nate laughed and agreed, hopping off the couch and taking Belle out of my arms.

"Yeah, I know. All beautiful like their mum." He smiled at Belle and kissed her forehead.

Mike and I simultaneously said 'whipped' in a cough, smirking at Nate. He always inadvertently told Rose she was beautiful, without ever actually looking at her. I think he wanted to tell it to her but didn't want to seem too soft so he always slipped it in whenever he could. Not that we could blame him, my sister was beautiful. Just like me.

Mike and I stayed there for a little while longer, hanging out with Nate and Rose like we normally did on a Thursday night. When we left, it was midnight and we drove back towards our dorm - the Calhoun Residential College.

"Are you going to bed?" Mike asked me as we walked towards our dorm.

"I think I might go to The Buttery for a coffee." I responded.

He stood still and looked at me like he usually did - with concern.

"How long did you want to go for?"

"About a half hour." I answered. And then after a moment, "You don't have to come."

He shook his head and rolled his eyes.

"I'll come. I'm just pretty tired so I won't get a coffee."

"Mike," I scolded, "It's just The Buttery. I'll be fine by myself."

He watched for any traces of lies and I prayed that in truth, I wasn't lying. I couldn't even tell if I was or not.

"Okay. But come back soon. Get your coffee and come straight up."

I nodded and he unlocked our dorm room and walked in. I started for The Buttery and I could feel my heart rate increase dramatically. My palms started to sweat and I immediately felt my stomach drop. I stopped in my tracks, running a hand through my hair.

F*ck. I hated this.

I turned on my heel and went back to our dorm, slamming the front door hard. Mike was in his room, taking his shirt off and getting ready to go to sleep.

"What happened?"

"Just didn't feel like a coffee." I muttered angrily, storming into my room.

I f*cking hated this.

***

I woke up the usual time, my alarm going off loudly. I groaned as I rubbed my eyes, taking the bed sheets off of me and taking a quick shower. I pulled on a pair of black jeans and a grey t-shirt, grabbing a couple of books with me.

Mike was already in the common room watching TV. When he saw me, he stood up and turned the TV off as we walked to the dining hall.

"Did anything happen?"

I knew he was talking about last night.

"I didn't feel like a coffee anymore." I answered bluntly.

He snorted and rolled his eyes.

"Yeah, right." He muttered sarcastically.

"It'll get better." I said boldly, my tone saying the statement as if it were a promise.

Which it kind of was.

Mike nodded but I could tell he was ignoring me - his eyes focused on something in the distance. Or rather, someone.

Sienna was standing at the end of the hallway talking to the Dean. She was playing with the end of her shirt nervously, like she really didn't want to be standing there. And immediately, I knew what she was doing there. I narrowed my eyes, knowing that she couldn't see me. Mike and I walked faster towards her and when we reached her, Mike grinned widely, putting an arm around her.

"Sienna! How are you? We haven't seen you in ages!" He said loudly, pulling her away from the Dean slightly. "Sorry, sir. I have to steal Miss Dawson away from you, we need to catch up."

And just like that, the Dean nodded and walked away. Mike automatically let go of Sienna, with the help of her pushing him away. She narrowed her eyes at the both of us and scowled at me.

"What do you think you're doing?" I hissed, glaring at her.

"I'm telling him what you guys did! That can't go unnoticed! You guys vandalised someone else's property and you will not get away with it." She replied irritably.

My frowned deepened and I crossed my arms.

"We will do what we want and you have no f*cking business with it."

"The hell I don't! You did it right in front of me, the car park where my car belongs! How do I know that I couldn't have been your victim?"

She obviously didn't know that the choice wasn't at random.

"Speaking of your precious little car; if I see you talking to the Dean again, you won't have a sparkling car there anymore." I threatened.

She gasped and she frowned like she was lost. Mike nudged me and shook his head.

"Stop it, Liam. It's Sienna."

At that, Sienna seemed even angrier, her dark curly hair bouncing as she spoke.

"What do you guys mean by that?! Even yesterday, you knew who I was! How?"

That was something I could never tell her.

I smirked, knowing that it would probably be fun teasing her with this. There's nothing more annoying than a mystery like this to keep someone up at night.

"I don't know, Soze. Are you sure we haven't met before?"

Her face went blank for a second as she assessed me.

"We haven't." She shook her head, her voice now soft.

My smile seemed even smugger at her confused features.

"Are you sure? Think about it." I taunted.

Her eyes wondered around and I could tell her head was spinning. She opened her mouth to say something but I cut her short.

"Class starts in five minutes, Soze. Better hurry up and get that coffee 'cause I'm not paying for it this time."

Her eyes widened as she took her phone out of her pocket and checked the time. She seemed like she would go to the ends of the earth to have a coffee.

"You're as bi-polar as Bradley Cooper in Silver Linings Playbook." She mumbled.

"I'll take that as a compliment." I smirked.

Bradley Cooper was a good actor, right? Sienna ran towards the coffee cart, her arms flailing wildly as she called her coffee order.

And Mike and I walked off to class, knowing we'd see a late Sienna walk in. The Professor was never late on a Friday.

***

Sienna was late to class. Like expected. And what was funnier was that she had no coffee in her hand and she looked like she wanted to cry because of it. When she walked in and the Professor had already started his class, her face turned red as she grumbled a few incoherent things and made her way to the seat beside me.

She hadn't glanced my way all throughout the class, and she definitely seemed irritated. As soon as the Professor had wrapped up today's class, she was up and out the door like lightning.

"You taunt her anymore?" Mike asked wearily as we made our way to my car.

I smirked and shrugged.

"I don't know, Mike. What do you think?"

"You did, didn't you?" He accused.

I chuckled loudly and rolled my eyes.

"Douche, you were with me the whole time. How could I have teased her without you watching?"

His eyes wondered around, probably thinking about if he really was with me.

"Fine, I believe you. But I mean it, Liam. Just leave her alone."

I laughed humourlessly in disbelief.

"What makes you think that I'm even going after her? She's the one who happens to come where I am. Go tell her to stop stalking me."

Mike rolled his eyes and jumped into the passenger seat when we reached my car.

I couldn't believe that he would actually think he'd have to warn me to stay away from Sienna. She was an off-limits girl, especially because her and that boyfriend seemed pretty tight.

I turned the engine on and sped out of the parking lot and sped to Rose's house. When I arrived, I found Rose in the back painting on a canvas for one of her deals with a few businesses.

"Hey," She smiled earnestly at the sight of Mike and me. "Nate will be home in a few hours." Rose said after Mike and I were silent.

I propped an eyebrow at her and she grinned.

"We care about Nate because?"

She frowned and pursed her lips.

"Isn't that why you're here?"

"No. I'm here to see you. You're my sister. He's just the guy that married you."

She opened her mouth to say something but was interrupted.

"Glad to know you guys appreciate me so much." Nate muttered, walking into the back and towards Rose.

I chuckled and Mike rolled his eyes.

"We were joking." Mike laughed.

Nate grunted and wrapped his arms around Rose's waist, kissing her temple.

"So you guys do love your big sister?" Rose asked after tearing away from Nate.

Mike and I rolled our eyes in sync.

"Yes."

"So why the hell did I not know about your vandalising extravaganzas?"

Oh shit.
