Superb //Lex Luthor//

Part Six

I tug on my uncomfortable tight maroon dress while standing in a corner. After working at LexCorp for the past couple of days I had only become acquainted with about three other staff, those including Mercy and Lex. 

I hate fancy parties; I can't wait to get home and put on some pajama pants. 

"Hey Mary. Cool party, huh? Mr. Luthor throws them all the time." I turn my head to see Simon Miller. He's wearing a white collar shirt with a light blue tie covered in paper airplanes.  

"I suppose. I'm not really a fan of parties." I reply and grab a glass of champagne off a tray a elderly woman is carrying. I believe her name is Deanna. "So Simon, how long have you been working here?" I ask.

"About..." he pauses "three years now. Not a very long time compared to some staff here. Some have been here since Mr. Luthor's father." Simon runs his pale fingers through his sandy blond hair.  

Still a lot longer than me. 

"I wonder where Lex is..." I ponder and watch the bubbles in the champagne pop. The lighting seems to set a yellow tone on the room. I can fell Simon watching me and as he cracks his knuckles. 

"Is it true, Mary? Did you really run into a wall and faint in Mr. Luthor's office on your first day?" Simon chuckles and sips his champagne. I begin to feel genuinely embarrassed.

"Well... n-not exactly. I hit my head with Lex's while trying to pick up a piece of paper and then fainted." I whisper under my breathe feeling foolish. I sip my champagne. It tastes bubbly on my tongue. 

"What was on the paper?" Simon ask casually and places his empty glass on a tray passing by. Then, crosses his arms and leans against the wall. 

"Just financial stuff. Nothing worth taking note of." I lie and rub my eyes. Then, finish off my champagne and tug on the disagreeable dress in order to keep it in place. Simon is silent while we both watch the people passing by. 

"Mary Gately! Dearest Mary, I've been looking for you for quite awhile now." Lex strides towards us wearing a polka dot shirt with a black blazer over it. "Simon Miller, I see you have met LexCorp's newest employee." Lex turns to Simon and shakes his hand. "Now Mary, I have some people I'd like you to meet. Come, come." Lex directs me and heads into the crowd. 

"I'll be back, Simon." I mouth to Simon as I walk away. He waves in return.
