Mercy is standing at the front desk when I enter the room. She flicks her eyes up and down my figure while I pull out the ID card Lex gave me. She grabs it, scans her eyes over it, then pushes it back into my hand.
"Thank you, Mercy. How was the rest of the party?" I greet her and pause before starting my way down the hall.
"It was fine." she replies dully and continues to type on the computer.
Not much of a talker, huh?
The hall is brightly lit, it hurts my eyes. I make a left turn and walk until I'm in front of Lex's closed door. I open it slowly. No Lex.
He must be playing basketball.
As I organize the papers on his desk, I hum. It's mostly what looks like a speech. I hear the door crack open. I quickly swing my head around. Its Lex.
"Good morning, Lex. How was the rest of the party?" I ask him and continue to stack the papers. He doesn't answer, but instead sits down on the couch with his head in his hands. "Lex? Are you okay?" I question worriedly and sit next to him.
"No, Mary. I'm not okay! Why must you be so rude? Ignoring your boss in order to be with that boy." Lex yells his eyes fulled with rage. I start to claw the skin on my wrist.
"Wh-what are you talking about, Lex? I'm sorry for whatever I did. I surely di-didn't mean it." I shutter and break the skin of my wrist. Lex turns his body towards me.
"You left without saying goodbye... with Simon. I don't like the way he looks at you. Men are pigs! You must stay away from them." Lex whispers under his breath. I bring my wrist to my lips and taste the irony blood.
"I didn't leave with Simon. I left alone!" I yell back and back away from him. "Simon is a good guy. I have no idea what your talking about." I say turning my back to him. I continue to claw my skin and drawing more blood.
"I've been watching him pick girls like you and ruining them for the past three years! I think I know what I'm talking about, Mary!" he pauses and looks down at my wrist. "I-I'm sorry. I shouldn't have yelled. I'm scaring you, aren't I? I'm s-sorry." he stutters and comes closer to me.
You were just yelling at me now your all nice and sweet? This is ludicrous.
He takes my arm in his hand, grabs a tissue from the coffee table, then wipes off the blood.
"I'm sorry, Mary." Lex repeats while wiping off the blood and rubbing my skin with his thumb.
