Chapter 1: Maybe

Once I returned to my room after finishing my classes, quite exhausted after a day of dreaming and taking notes, I immediately dug through my backpack to get my phone out. After I was done with homework, I would give myself a break to scroll through some time-wasting social media. However, I was in no mood to start with homework at the moment, so I started with a bit of reading instead.

I was in the middle of reading a recent news article when Patrick messages me. Patrick is one of my closest friends-besides Chloe-that is usually always there for me, whether as a study buddy, coffee date (I have an unhealthy obsession with coffee), and just a wonderful friend in general. His message read,

Wanna go out for coffee?

I wanted to, but I knew I couldn't because of the homework load.  I quickly reply back.

Sorry dude, not today. It seems they've loaded us down.

Oh come on Lola, coffee would make it so much better!

Meaning we'll staying up till' midnight for homework because of all the caffeine?

Well yeah, it's an idea.

Pat, no. I can't go out right now, I need to get this all done. I shouldn't even be texting you right now. I'll talk to you later.

Oh all right, good luck!

Thanks bud.

I click the sleep button on my phone and rush over to my backpack, already digging out all my books, binders, and papers. We actually were loaded down; I'd never lie to Patrick to turn him down.

After grabbing some pencil and paper, I started doing math homework, but soon drifted off into thinking after doing ten problems.

Coffee would be quite enjoyable right now, and I'll probably stay up till' midnight anyways. I'm already reaching for my phone to reply to him.

Pat, meet me at the downtown coffee shop, you talked me into it.

It didn't take him long to write back.

I'm already on my way! :D

I stuff my phone in my pocket and grab my bag, then quickly run down the stairs to the front door. I slipped on a pair of sneakers and grabbed my house key. I was home alone, it was only my mum and I who lived here in our little town home.  My mum was a nurse who worked till 6 about every night, so she wouldn't notice me being gone, but I always left a note just in case she would come home early or something.

Once I locked my door from the outside and stuck my key back in my bag, I took in the fresh air of outside. Spring, I loved spring in London. The trees turned back to a calm green, with the grass fresh and covered with droplets of water. The skies were always blue and the sun shone over the entire city, practically raining warmth. Then again, the weather can here can be a bit bipolar, since it could start raining any moment now.

I stepped quickly down the steps and walked gracefully down the street. It was kind of sucky to walk everywhere, but I'm going to need some kind of exercise other than running and football. Besides, it was nice to enjoy the weather while walking down the streets on the sidewalk and passing all the various flat building complexes.

Soon I found the coffee shop I asked Patrick to meet up at. He was very fond of being late, so it was highly unlikely he wouldn't be there.  My expectation was correct.

It felt nice to walk into the coffee shop,  with the scent of coffee hitting you in the face and hearing the sound of the blender blending fresh coffee beans. It was pretty crowded here, so I quickly grabbed a table and waited patiently for Patrick.
