Chapter 54: Meet-ups

I feel Louis take my hand as we run through the finish line that’s surrounded by fences with people cheering us on as we finally finished.  I was exhausted and my legs felt like jelly, but I was still excited with a stupid grin on my face. We let the run’s official photographers take a few pics of us since we were still covered in mud and gunk until we kept walking to get bottles of water, energy drinks, pretzels, bagels, granola bars, fruit, and of course a very cool medal.

We were walking out of the food tent when I heard someone call both of our names. I thought I heard something until we’re being called again, so I turned around and couldn’t believe what I saw.

There they were, Chloe and my mum standing behind the fence waving to us. I was really surprised and shocked to see them here, and glad that they were.

“Louis,” I say to grab his attention. He looks up from eating his bagel. I point over to my mum and Chloe and he nearly spits out his bagel.

“Is that your mum?” He asks, trying to swallow. I nod.

“Come on, we have to go talk to them,” I say, already leading him over to the fence.

“Hi!” Chloe greets me. “Oh my gosh you guys look really gross,” We both laugh.

“Hey, I’m glad you guys came out to see this. It was a fun course,” I say. Louis nods beside me in agreement.

“I never imagined you doing this Lola,” My mum laughs at my appearance.  “And is this Louis?”

“That would be me ma’am,” He holds out his hand but quickly takes it back. “You probably don’t want to do that yet,” She laughs.

“So you did the run with him?” She asks me. I nod.

“Yeah, this was one of my birthday presents,” I smile. She looks at Louis in amazement.

“Well this was certainly a good present, she’s been dying to do one of these ever since she started running. I’m glad she got to do it with someone,”

“Me too,” Louis smiles at me. “I kept her safe and unharmed all the way through it,”

“And I’m glad you did,” My mum says. “Now squeeze together because Chloe took the liberty of bringing your camera!” I look over at Chloe as she holds it up. I wanted to question why and how she got it, but I left the idea alone since my mum was standing right there. As she turned it on and held it up, I felt Louis’ arm slip around my waist and pull me closer to him as we both smiled for a picture. I was sort of getting sick of standing there caked in mud in the freezing cold, but I smiled for the various pictures with funny faces and poses she made us take until she was done.

“Perhaps we can meet up later?” My mum suggests. I knew she wanted to get to know Louis a little better, so I wouldn’t argue with it.

“Sure, we’d love to,” Louis says. She smiles.

“Great, I’ll let you guys go get cleaned up then and we can set up a date. I’d love to hug you Lola but you’re a little-“

“Yeah, I know,” I smile.

“We’ll see you guys later then,” Chloe says as they start to wave and walk away. We wave back at them until they turn around and walk away from us.

“Let’s go get rinsed off then, I can feel mud going up my arse,” I say, trying to peel my pants off to stop the chaffing.

“Aww come on. You look all cute covered in mud,” I glare at him playfully.

“Oh don’t look at me like that, come here,” He says, walking towards me and cupping my cheeks to plant a kiss on my lips. This was probably one of the weirdest kisses I’ve ever had period since our lips were wet and caked with bits of mud and dirt. I pulled away and immediately gagged.
